The pictures are real, they are historical records, the KKK waived flags at thier lynchings which they beileved were patriotic! A symbol such as the flag is easier for the KK and American Nazis to relate to than something as complicated as a Constitution or Bill of Rights.

While most aren't as extreme as these two groups most types of people who usually seek to wrap themselves in the flag are by and large intolerant. They and others use the flag to mask intolerence and a type of bigotry and tend to beliefs which have more in common with a nationalistic facism then a democracy. They also tend to call those who don't join in thier hysteria unpatriotic. When you see a flag its a good bet waiver doesn't believe in the day to dya application of the Bill of Rights or other aspects of the Constituion, if they are chanting USA USA USA to drown out those exercising thier constitutional rights you know it for sure.
