Iraq Body Counter

by Simple Simon Wednesday, Apr. 30, 2003 at 7:23 PM

The Iraq Body Counter is bogus.

What's up with our good old Iraq Body Counter?

Yesterday (28 APR 03) it stood at a max of 2500 dead.

Today it stands at 2600.

One hundred Iraqis died as a result of Coalition activities just today? Really?

I've only heard of 13.

But I guess if you call what happened in Jenin a "holocaust" or a "massacre" well 13 probably looks close enough to 100.

Unexploded cluster bombs are killing Iraqi civillians every day, especially children. The hospitals are still full and receive new casualties every day, some of them die as a result of there injuries. Yes of course the body count continues to rise. While there is no rationing of ignorance in this country, there is no rationing of innocent civilian deaths abroad.

Look at it this way. if they would have held those protests in Iraq before we killed the Iraqi Regime then you would be seeing a Holocaust. I know you're upset that Saddam is dead and you no longer have a fearless role model to look up to, but you have to come out of your fantasy and realize that we, the USA, are good and Saddam's Regime was Evil. In this battle evil has been defeated. One more thing, who doesn't want to end the UN sanctions now and why? Or did the "evil" corporate media make all of that up? by Ogma Thursday, May. 01, 2003 at 3:35 AM

I've been checking the Iraq Body Count site and counter since it was launched. I've made two observations about it: 1) It often takes hours or even days to post additional deaths (this is because facts must be checked, re-checked and then checked again (from what I've read)), 2) Often the numbers posted to the site have been far more conservative than those posted by Reuters or AP or other news sources. I think the counter is about as accurate as it can be from this end and I applaud their efforts.

On the ground, in Iraq, imagine how difficult it must be determining how many have died from an exploded bomb when all you can find are tiny bits and pieces scattered over several meters...

Children can throw stones to their hearts' content.

If you decide to throw stones with the intention of injuring or killing an American soldier, you can expect that they will respond in a manner which will discourage such behavior.

And I don't see any children in the photographs here:

Report this post as:

Simple

by Simple Simon Thursday, May. 01, 2003 at 6:50 PM

First point:

I challenge you to find me a 'child' throwing a stone in any of the four photographs.

Second point:

Yes, even a child can kill someone with a stone. This is not against the law of pysics nor any other natural law.

But you miss the point. A mob which takes to throwing stones is a terrifying thing. The anonymity afforded by the crowd encourages more and more violent behavior once violence begins. A single soldier would not be hit by a 'child' with a single stone. Instead, dozens or hundreds of projectiles - of all sizes and thrown by people of all ages - rain down on the soldiers. If a driver panics, and a passenger in the back of a HMMWV were to fall out and be stunned, what do you think the crowd would do to him?

The answer to the question is that they would tear him limb from limb. Hence his use of deadly force to disperse the stone-throwers is justified.

These provocateurs throw stones because that's all they have. But maybe that's not all they have. Yesterday medical personnel who attempted to attend to the wounded were shot at. Today a number of assualt weapons were recovered.

So, Sir Isaac, you believe that a stone is incapable of injuring a human being? Fascinating.

And you were widely considered the most brilliant mathematical mind. Such a shame.

Stoning is still used as a method of capital punishment in some charming Islamic countries. The Roman Empire was once threatened by Hannibal's Carthaginians who once employed a number of mercinaries from the Balearic Islands. These men were experts in the use of the sling. With these stone-throwing implements they killed many men.

Oh, and there's always that story about David and Goliath.

Furthermore, as I have already explained, it wouldn't be the case of a single child throwing a single stone, but rather a number of people throwing stones and other objects of all sizes.

Iraq is not the United States. They have had a bit of a problem with their communications infrastructure, as it all got blown up. (It was on TV.) Obviously this counter is utterly bogus.

No one disagrees with that. (At least no sensible person does).

That being the case, it's fair to assume that the total is over inflated in order to push the agenda of the counter's authors. It behooves them to have a HIGH count. After all. They'd love to see thousands and thousands killed since then they wouldn't have so mush mud on their faces.

Conclusion. The counter's total needs to be reduced by , oh, a factor of 4 or 5. That's a fair assessment of the amount of lying and misinformation that goes into this site. SO. 2700/5 = 540 dead.

List of typical Fascist /Zionist "discrediting" techniques

by systemfailure Friday, May. 09, 2003 at 8:38 AM

Try to expose the subversive acts of Zionism or American neocon nationalism.

the right wing "smear" process

1--Cry "Anti-Semitism" or "Anti-American"

2---Ignore the charges (hoping the information will not be given widespread distribution)

3----If the information starts to reach too many people

Ridicule the information.

4-----If that dosent work---the next step is Character assassination

5-----Fabricate a scandal to further discredit the spreader of information

6----Resort to physical attacks

They will NEVER try to prove the argument WRONG

Because it would be looked upon as a challenge

and hense have to follow the rules of logical debate.

God loves Christians, Jews, and Moslems alike

God hates Nazis, ZIonists, and Militant Islam.

Hey, what's up with the body counter?

It's been stuck on 2706 for two days now.

Did no one die in Iraq in the last two days? I thought we were going to see famine, pestilence, you know, the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

I thought we were committing Genocide. Where's Robert Fisk these days?

Quick, somebody shoot an Iraqi. I want to see if this counter is stuck or something.

I got in touch with the people at iraqbodycount.net who put this thing up and they cleared it all up for me.

First of all they admit that the MAX number is probably quite substantially inflated.

But the real kicker is that they said the total reflects ALL deaths of civilians in Iraq AND Afganistan AND "palestine" and for some reason San Francisco as well.

Alot of these deaths were the result of US military actions but they say they also count deaths of people who "probably" would have someday died in a war with the US.

Evidently it's a pretty sophisticated formula but now I feel much better about it.

Amazing!

Somehow the body counter just jumped by 2000 in the last few days.

Hmmm. The site says those deaths are from "hospitals".

2000.

Still more reason to trust implicitly in the validity of this counter in particular and the anti-American crowd in general.

Good stuff!

LOL!

Another 500 body jump!

Holy crap. Are we just mowing those Iraqis down, or what?

During the entire 5 week campaign, we only got a maximum of 2706. Now that the war's over we've been killing them at a hellacious clip.

I haven't heard anything about thousands of Iraqis gunned down by redneck, racist Amerikkkan soldiers, but then, we can't trust the thousands of reporters in Iraq to tell us the truth, now can we?

Iraq Body Counter is full of excrement.

Perhaps the idiots running it should start the "Unearthed Iraqi Atrocity Counter".

You know, an up-to-the-minute accounting of all the tens of thousands of innocents murdered by the Hussein regime that are being dug up daily.

You know, the people the Left doesn't give a fiddler's fart about.

On May 6th, the body count stood at 2706.

Today, May 23rd, the body count stands at 6942.

That's a jump of 4200 AFTER the fighting stopped.

The large scale fighting stopped before May 1st.

I haven't heard of 4,000 Iraqis dying reported in ANY media.

If you visit it's webpage, the thing has a noticable anti-war slant to it anyway, which by default makes it less media and more propaganda.

What I find amusing is the constant references to how "war has become a video game" by the anti-war types, then here they are with a high score counter.

Does something happen if it reaches 10k?

Oh - I know. There's a final boss fight, right?
