Disturbing Similarities of History - The Third Reich and the Presidency of George Bush

by Student Friday, Apr. 04, 2003 at 11:12 PM

I just threw this timeline together, so it isn't perfect; I'm still working on it. However, notice the striking and horrifyingly blatant similarities between the two...

Adolf Hitler – The Fatherland.

January 30th, 1933 – Hitler appointed Chancellor of Germany.

February 27th, 1933 – Berlin Reichstag, Germany’s parliament, was set on fire. Before Marinus van der Lubbe, a deranged member of the communist party, was even known to be arrested as the sole culprit, Nazi Leaders accused the German Communist Party and declared a state of national emergency against a supposed communist uprising. Later on, there were implications of conspiracy involving the Nazi party as complicit to the crime.

February 27th, 1933 – Hindenburg, at the request of Hitler, signed an emergency decree"for the Protection of the people and the State” following the Reichstag fire – the “national emergency”.

The Emergency Decree stated: "Restrictions on personal liberty, on the right of free expression of opinion, including freedom of the press; on the rights of assembly and association; and violations of the privacy of postal, telegraphic and telephonic communications and warrants for house searches, orders for confiscation’s as well as restrictions on property, are also permissible beyond the legal limits otherwise prescribed."

"Described as measures to ward off 'Communist acts of violence endangering the state,' these decrees suspended all fundamental freedoms of speech, assembly, freedom from invasion of privacy (mail, telephone, telegram) and from house search without warrant"

“The great power of the GESTAPO was "Schutzhaft" -- the power to imprison people without judicial proceedings on the theory of "protective custody." This power was based upon the law of 28 February 1933 which suspended the clauses of the Weimar Constitution guaranteeing civil liberties to the German people. The actions and orders of the GESTAPO were not subject to judicial review.”

“…it contained five sub-sections (The Gestapo). Section A dealt with opponents, sabotage, and protective service. Section B dealt with …matters of evacuation, means of suppressing enemies of the people and State, dispossession of rights of German citizenship”

March 20th, 1933 – The first concentration camp, Camp Dechau, was created. The name ‘concentration” was deemed from the fact that all political dissidents were concentrated there for “re-education”; those included were communists, leftists, and anyone deemed as a threat to the state. The Gestapo, an elite group of the SS, mainly arrested dissidents and guarded and ran the concentration camps.

March 23rd, 1933 – The Enabling Act was passed.

“ARTICLE 2. The national laws enacted by the Reich Cabinet may deviate from the Constitution provided they do not affect the position of the Reichstag and the Reichsrat. The powers of the President remain unaffected.” Of the "Law for the Removal of the Distress of People and Reich" or the Enabling Act.

1934 – The People’s Court was set up as a “trial court for high treason and treason”. The court operated outside the jurisdiction of normal courts and had the ability to try and sentence in secrecy.

March 11th, 1938 - “The German Government today handed to President Miklas an ultimatum, with a time limit, ordering him to nominate as chancellor a person designated by the German Government and to appoint members of a cabinet on the orders of the German Government; otherwise German troops would invade Austria.“ - Kurt von Schuschnigg, radio broadcast (11th March, 1938)

March 12th, 1938 – German Army into Austria

Jan 1, 1939 - "In general we have but one wish-- that in the coming years we may be able to make our contribution to this general pacification of the whole world." – Adolf Hitler

Apr 1, 1939 - "(We) do not dream of attacking other nations, providing they leave us alone . . ." – Adolf Hitler

Sept. 1st, 1939 – Germany invaded Poland with blatant imperialistic expansionism causing France and Britain to declare war, officially starting World War II.
______________________________________________

George W. Bush – The Homeland

Jan. 20th, 2000 – George W. Bush took office as President of the United States after a ruling by the Supreme Court.

September 11th, 2001 – Hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Centers, the Pentagon, and in Stony Creek Township, Pennsylvania. Supposedly, 19 hijackers of middle-eastern arabic decent in coordination with Al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden, an ex-CIA operative, were responsible in attempts of jihad, or religious war, against the United States. Though no strong evidence was ever displayed in support of the latter case, a national state of emergency was declared against terrorism – specifically Al-Qaeda.

September 14th, 2001 – “I proclaimed a national emergency on September 14, 2001 (Proc. 7463, Declaration of National Emergency by Reason of Certain Terrorist Attacks).” – President Bush

Oct. 7th, 2001 – U.S. invaded Afghanistan - ‘Operation Enduring Freedom”.
“More than two weeks ago, I gave Taliban leaders a series of clear and specific demands: Close terrorist training camps; hand over leaders of the al Qaeda network; and return all foreign nationals, including American citizens, unjustly detained in your country. None of these demands were met.” – Bush from his Oct. 7th address.

“First, the United States has quietly begun to align itself with those in the Russian government calling for military action against Afghanistan and has toyed with the idea of a new raid to wipe out Osama bin Laden… Second, Assistant Secretary of State Karl Inderfurth met recently with Russia's friends in the government of India to discuss what kind of government should replace the Taliban. Thus, while claiming to oppose a military solution to the Afghan problem, the United States is now talking about the overthrow of a regime that controls nearly the entire country, in the hope it can be replaced with a hypothetical government that does not exist even on paper.” - [Washington Post, 12/19/00] (U.S. had plans to invade Afghanistan pre 9/11)

Oct. 23rd, 2001 – U.S.A. Patriot Act or Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism passed by 107th Congress.

USA PATRIOT ACT of 2001 -
“…the term ''domestic terrorism'' means activities that – (B) appear to be intended - (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion…”

“One new definition of terrorism and three expansions of previous terms also expand the scope of surveillance. They are 1) § 802 definition of "domestic terrorism" (amending 18 USC §2331), which raises concerns about legitimate protest activity resulting in conviction on terrorism charges…” - EFF Analysis Of The Provisions Of The USA PATRIOT Act

“…the Bush Administration, the United States Justice Department and the United States Congress have enacted a series of Executive Orders, regulations, and laws that have seriously undermined civil liberties, the checks and balances that are essential to the structure of our democratic government, and indeed, democracy itself.” - Center for Constitutional Rights, http://www.ccr-ny.org

“From the USA PATRIOT Act's over-broad definition of domestic terrorism, to the FBI's new powers of search and surveillance, to the indefinite detention of both citizens and non-citizens without formal charges, the principles of free speech, due process, and equal protection under the law have been seriously undermined.” - Center for Constitutional Rights, http://www.ccr-ny.org

November 13th, 2001 - Military Order of November 13, 2001 from President Bush.

“(e) To protect the United States and its citizens, and for the effective conduct of military operations and prevention of terrorist attacks, it is necessary for individuals subject to this order pursuant to section 2 hereof to be detained, and, when tried, to be tried for violations of the laws of war and other applicable laws by military tribunals.”

April 9th, 2002 – Construction of Camp Delta at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. This detention camp – concentration camp – holds suspected terrorists.

2002 - Military Tribunal Act of 2002 and Homeland Security Act of 2002

“The primary mission of the Department is to- (A) prevent terrorist attacks within the United States; (B) reduce the vulnerability of the United States to terrorism…” – Section 101

March 19th, 2003 – U.S. invaded Iraq.

““Saddam Hussein and his sons must leave Iraq within 48 hours. Their refusal to do so will result in military conflict, commenced at a time of our choosing.” – President Bush in Address to the Nation, March 17th, 2003.

“Under the plan, the government will consist of 23 ministries, each headed by an American. Every ministry will also have four Iraqi advisers appointed by the Americans, the Guardian has learned.” Brian Whitaker and Luke Harding in Sulaimaniya Tuesday April 1, 2003 The Guardian

2003 Pending – The Patriot Act II or The Domestic Security Enhancement Act of 2003 currently in Congress – the same Congress who passed the Patriot Act.

“Americans could have their citizenship revoked, if found to have contributed "material support" to organizations deemed by the government, even retroactively, to be "terrorist."

The government would be instructed to build a mammoth database of citizen DNA information, aimed at "detecting, investigating, prosecuting, preventing or responding to terrorist activities." Samples could be collected without a court order; one need only be suspected of wrongdoing by a law enforcement officer. Those refusing the cheek-swab could be fined $200,000 and jailed for a year.

Authorities could wiretap anybody for 15 days, and snoop on anyone's Internet usage (including chat and email), all without obtaining a warrant…

The government would be specifically instructed not to release any information about detainees held on suspicion of terrorist activities, until they are actually charged with a crime. Or, as Hentoff put it, "for the first time in U.S. history, secret arrests will be specifically permitted." – Matt Welch, alternet.org

I believe they're trying to say 'WATCH OUT FOR THE FOURTH REICH!' Or PNAC, or whatever they call themselves these days. Neocons or excons or whatever.

But you already knew that I'm sure.

Tinfoil too expensive for a man on your budget, POIO?

Just use the bottom of a Jiffy-Pop container if you find your "receiver" is getting a little thin.

Give my regards to Emperor Napoleon.

Whenever we liberals have nothing intelligent to say or add to the conversation, which is 100% of the time, we can always resort to making connect-the-unrelated-dots claims about Hitler and Bush.
