POLICE WARNING!!! "By any means necessary"

by fr3th0t Monday, Mar. 24, 2003 at 6:56 PM

PLEASE BE CAREFUL. Police ordered to stop protesters "by any means necessary"

Left the protest about an hour ago when we smelled the pepper spray.

We overheard on police radio when leaving today's march were orders to stop protesters by Willoughby St. "by any means necessary." [direct quote from police radio]

If anyone knows how to contact anyone in the breakaway, please warn them to BE CAREFUL. DO NOT ESCALATE ANY CONFRONTATIONS WITH POLICE. Get in contact with legal observers. Have an escape plan.

Welcome to the Fascist States of America.

by Carolina Monday, Mar. 24, 2003 at 7:14 PM

Police wasted no time in breaking up the main rally at Orange & Sunet when the 6pm end of their permit came. Police loudspeakers announed they would arrest anyone who remained, even on the sidewalk on the south side of Sunset. "We strongly advise against any unlawful actvity or tumultuous or noisy behavior."

Most all left. Some headed to Hollywood Highand acroos the street from the Kodak Theatre to counter protest a pro-war rally.

bush admirer, there may be hope for you yet.

meanwhile all keep praying that casualties are kept to a minimum - meaning both sides of the conflict

Diogenes

by Bush Admirer Monday, Mar. 24, 2003 at 9:16 PM

Diogenes - You appear to be losing whatever semblance of intellect you may have once had and going over the edge. Based on this worrisome behavior, I'm beginning to think your real name might be Michael Moore. There are strong parallels.

We didn't leave

by Melissa Monday, Mar. 24, 2003 at 9:17 PM

350 or so of us continued to march down side streets, taking over intersections and marching in the street. We were perused by police at every turn and eventually cornered. Most of us were able to escape, as they let us leave in small groups. Unfortunately, we don't know what happened to those who chose to stay behind. I should also add that today I witnessed, not only the most vicious incidents of police brutality I have ever seen, but also the most blatant examples of discrimination against the anti-war movement. The pro-war demonstrators were able to hold their rally right next to the oscars, while the anti-war demonstrators were relegated to a street without visibility or media coverage. Those of us with signs weren't even allowed to cross over into the oscar area.

When they told us to leave we did. They followed/chased us down the streets until they guided us into a trap, surrounded us and told us that we were illegally protesting. With the help of some lawyers, TV hellicopters and a blimp recording it all, they let us go.
