Rapper Wil b Takes on the President and the War Against Iraq

by R. Bannister Thursday, Mar. 13, 2003 at 6:17 PM
luchifumusic@hotmail.com 213-219-0201

Using his What!?! Wil b Radio Show, his talents as a rapper and poet, and his passion for peace, Columnist, Wil Bannister aka Wil b has a letter for the President with his song "Dear Mr. Bush" protesting the war and it's effects of the war in the urban communities in this nation and abroad.

“All Revolutions Seem Impossible Until They Happen, Then, They Become Inevitable”

For Immediate Release:

Columnist/Activist/Emcee - Wil b has issued an impassioned challenge to the President of the United States in his song “Dear Mr. Bush”, a song that questions the motives of White House insiders including, President George W. Bush or as Wil b refers to his as “George”.

Wil b will be performing this song for the first time at what is anticipated as the last PROTEST march and rally in Los Angeles, CA prior to the anticipated war, which has been rumored to begin on or after March 17th.

On Saturday, March 15th, Wil b will perform “Dear Mr. Bush” in front of the media and an anticipated 250,000 protesters on the stairs of the Federal Building in Downtown Los Angeles.

The song, not currently in stores, will be made available for distribution companies and anti-war supporters in a move that distribution and music industry insiders predict will be one of the hottest and most sought after singles in the country after Saturday’s March.

Wil b emerged from the fledgling “What!?! Wil b Radio Show” in NYC, and the poetry circuit. Wil has now embarked on all out lyrical assault for what he believes in putting his talent and fame second to delivering and appropriate message.

Below you will find lyrics to the song “Dear Mr. Bush” and attached is a MP3 snippet of this extraordinary song.

Dear Mr. Bush

Written by: Wil b aka Mr. Bannister

© 2003 Mr. Bannister’s Music Publishing (BMI)

Hook:

Dear Mr. Bush, we don’t wanna go to War

We’ve been down this road, We all seen this before

It’s gonna wind up in a third world war

Or A second Vietnam – what’s the message in this song

Dear Mr. Bush, we don’t wanna go to War

We’ve been down this road, We all seen this before

It’s gonna wind up in a third world war

Tell me, Please, What we fight for

Verse:

Dear Mr. Bush,

I got few questions for you.

Why’d the September Saga turn ta Kill em for some oil?

Why do you scream about Hussein when our beef was with Osama?

How did you manipulate a War from our post-dramatic trauma?

Can’t you hear the voices cry when they’re screamin’ “Hell No”?

Do you really think Iraq; is where our money needs to go?

See my babies need food and their minds need to grow?

My brother needs a job and my sister’s on the stroll?

She been smokin’ on that rock, while you talking bomb talk

You got the Crips and Bloods warring on the next damn block

And, I never knew my Daddy; I cause you got him on lock

In the Penitentiary, I think he’s doin’ about a century

My mama tried to reach me, tried to keep me out of the streets

But I’m steady out here living tryin’ to make my ends meet

Can’t afford a SUV, So, I depend on these feet;

Listen to the people of the world they’d repeat!

Hook: (Same as Above)

Verse 2:

Dear Mr. Bush,

I’m really sick and tired of this got three mouths to feed

And I struggle just to live; I try to stay vigil on my knees I pray to God

I hustle every night after working two jobs

My babies fathers dead, a casualty of war

Police shot him six times, while he was sleeping in his car

They thought he had gun, was what they told me at the morgue

But it was just his cell phone, now he won’t be coming home

I’m fightin for your country and I don’t understand why (why)

Unemployment on the rise now I struggle to survive (why)

I gotta pay taxes on the little that I get (why)

I gotta buy shoes and some clothes for my kids (oh)

You know you never talk about US when say the U.S.

You never look our way and you won’t meet us in the press

I need to cut this letter, see I got enough stress

Time to feed my kids another leftover mess!

Hook: (Same as Above)

Verse 3:

Dear Mr. Bush

I think you know me very well; I’m the writer of this song, Mr. W-I-L

B, you might know record, Mr. “World War Three” and if you listen to the lyrics

boy you really know me

Dear Mr. Bush, we don’t really want to die

How many have to pass before you understand why

We don’t really need to fight, I can testify

Sir think a little farther; there's no telling what you’ll find

And Dear Mr. Bush, here’s some more I need offer

He fought for this country, yes; I’m talkin’ bout my father

He’s been through all the horror; tryin to keep it from my daughters

And nothin’ gonna stop me

Let go a little farther

Dear Mr. Bush, I think it’s all so clear

Why we travelin’ for war when the war is right here

I know terror when I see it; man, We live it over here;

And him not afraid to voice it, baby, have no fears

And finally Mr. Bush, what the (ugh!) You gon’ do

I got a hundred million of us VS Lil ol’ You

I’m a take it to the chorus, after check one-two

Man, we want your resignation, this impeachments on you

The End. FOR NOW!!!!!!!!
