Seeds of chaos and war - Bush's sanctimonious double-speak

by Winston Smith Saturday, Mar. 01, 2003 at 8:28 PM
Oceana

This whole scenario, even the historically unprecedented worldwide peace demonstrations, is beginning to feel like we are living in a script or best-selling novel, say "1984"? Are people actually asking each other if war is peace?

Speaking at a gathering of rightwing ideologues, the present occupant of the Whitehouse proclaimed with practiced sanctimony that U.S. policy toward Iraq “ will plant seeds of democracy and peace”. The light applause he received for that amazing statement, truly a textbook example of double-speak, indicates that even the denizens of the American Enterprise Institute aren’t programmed enough to buy the argument that a U.S. invasion of Iraq will bring on Pax Americana. Far from it, even the Director of the CIA had been pointing out the obvious in the mainstream media before someone reined him in and he changed his tune, saying god knows what in a closed session of congress.

An invasion of Iraq, even with a doubtful UN sanction, will unleash the hounds of hell. Most of the Arab world looks upon such actions as a modern day Crusade, and indeed many of the elements of that dark time in history live on among some of the far-right Christian fundamentalist operatives in the Bush regime. This whole scenario, even the historically unprecedented worldwide peace demonstrations, is beginning to feel like we are living in a script or best-selling novel. I guess that’s surrealism at its best, but it sure feels like shit.

In any case, we’ll be looking forward to more words of wisdom from Big Brother, the entity (hardly the work of one man) that reminded us “war is peace” “Freedom is Slavery," and "Ignorance is Strength."
