Saddleback College Anti-war Rally UPDATE!

by . Friday, Feb. 28, 2003 at 4:43 PM
. . .

.

Yesterday Wed. Feb 26 over 300 Students and Community residents came together in coservative South Orange County at Saddleback College to protest against the War on Iraq and repression that is being imposed on the American public due to George Junior "anti-terrorist/pro-war" point of view.
It was a wonderful event, with great speakers and a 1st anti-war rally on the extremly conservative campus. The rain clouds cleared up and a wonderful hip-hop band named JG Havekn Hayes out of Florida (in Orange County with the Boycott Taco Bell Truth Tour) performed and got the crowd going. Tom Lash from Coastal Convergance & The Green Party spoke, followed by Saddleback College students and teachers. Farmworkers and members of the CIW Boycott Taco Bell Tour showed up in solidarity of the anti-war protest and also spoke about their own personal struggle. Around 12:30 PM Over the Counter Intelligence a local Santa Ana band got the crowd on their feet and moving, and they were followed by 70 year old peace veteran and union organizer Murial who live in close by Laguna Woods.

Overall it was a wonderful event, so many people came out and had wonderful signs.

Campus republicans from the campus also held a counter protest across the quad and had around 7 supporters at their event, they were joined half way through the protest by 2 Skin Heads (one had the nazi symbol patch on his jacket, other had iron cross followed by "OC skinhead" logo" - im sure this made the campus republicans look great :D

Organizers announced that they will start to hold an anti-war rally on campus (rain or shine) every other week, hopefully these rallies will grow to be just another notch of resistance in conservative, white upper/middle class orange county.

Even in this area there are plenty of people who will stand up and in clear and loud voices say NO TO WAR!

hope to see you all at the next anti-war event that will be held on March 12, 11:00-1:00 PM, in the Main Quad at Saddleback College, located at 28000 Marguerite Pkwy., Mission Viejo, CA 92692 ( 5 Freeway & Crown Valley Parkway, Mission Viejo)

Hi I go to UCI but I came out to Saddleback College to support your event, and I thought that it was wonderful. You all did such a wonderful job, and while I was there I found out that there are actually some people doing protests at UCI.
I plan on also attending the protest next wed afternoon. Thank you for putting the event, it was real fun, and you had real good music. Keep up the good work
