INTERNET SMOKE SHOPS RAIDED

by systemfailure Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003 at 2:46 AM

John Ashcroft and his roving band of D.E.A. agents raided 55 different locations across America yesterday, including the home of tommy chong(cheech & chong fame).

In a new strategy on the "War on Drugs".....

John Ashcroft and his roving band of D.E.A. agents raided 55 different locations across America yesterday, including the home of tommy chong(cheech & chong fame).

TOmmy Chong operates the website "chongglass.com". He was arrested in his Pacific Palasades home Monday as part of a nationwide sting operation.

The locations all were headquarters for businesses that distribute "smoking accessories" including bongs, pipes, bubblers, etc. across the internet.

The reasoning behind the violation was that they were supplying children a way to use drugs, therefore contributing to drug use...

Old Hippy or Succesful Movie and Tv Star?

by Jenny Tuesday, Mar. 04, 2003 at 1:52 AM

Tommy Chong is not just an old hippy. He is a very rich and sucessful business man, movie star, and TV Star. That plus the fact that he was not breaking a law is the concern. The DEA has nothing else to do so they make up stuff to keep busy. You need to check your rights before you lose them.

The "War on Drugs" is a War of deception

by Diogenes Tuesday, Mar. 04, 2003 at 2:44 AM

The War on Drugs is nothing more than a conjob for creating ever more "Police Powers" for the Federal Government to misuse.

Drug use has climbed, and drug profits soared, every year of it's existence.

Even if we had the NAZI Police State BA seems to long for, evidently he must think he has an inside track, it would ultimately fail.

Prohibition does not work. Ask Al Capone, Meyer Lansky, and Joe Kennedy.

The C.I.A. since the 60's has been one of the biggest Cocaine Importers. They just want to "rub-out" the competition like any other self respecting Capitalist Gangster.

Let the Free Market Decide. Very quickly with the money diverted to treatment instead of useless interdiction and incarceration drug use would plummet.

I would rather see a solution to the problem not the creation of a larger one.

If you keep writing the wrong answer a thousand times why should you expect it to be right the 1001th time?

Neo-Puritanism

by Diogenes Tuesday, Mar. 04, 2003 at 4:54 AM

What someone chooses to do with their body and their life is no business of yours or mine.

For the record I think using drugs is a self destructive behavior. It is a way to avoid confronting reality. Having said that what makes it your business to lead someone else's life for them? As long as they are not involved in conduct which is violent and is affecting the right of some non-family member to enjoy their liberty it should be no business of the governments.

LET ME SAY THIS AGAIN: THE WAR ON DRUGS IS A COLOSSAL FAILURE. LET ME SAY THAT AGAIN: THE WAR ON DRUGS IS A COLOSSAL FAILURE.

Drugs are now more available than they were before the so-called "War on Drugs Began".

It costs about 45,000 dollars per year to keep a non-violent drug user behind bars and less than 15,000 dollars to treat someone in the Narconon Program which has about an 80% Success rate - meaning 80% of the people who complete the program NEVER return to drug use - based on a 5 year period of non-use.

The cost of incarceration does not even begin to count the millions of dollars spent in various enforcement programs.

It does not account for the imposition of vague laws passed allegedly to combat the drug trade which end up being misused to harass honest citizens.

If this were a "liberal" welfare program you would be having a hissy fit at it's waste and extravagance.

I think you fit the definition of a "Puritan" as given by H.L. Mencken: "A Puritan is someone with the haunting fear that somewhere someone might be happy."

LET ME SAY THIS AGAIN: THE WAR ON DRUGS IS A COLOSSAL FAILURE. LET ME SAY THAT AGAIN: THE WAR ON DRUGS IS A COLOSSAL FAILURE.

"LET ME SAY THIS AGAIN: A PERSON WHO INGESTS DRUGS IS DOOMED TO BE A COLOSSAL FAILURE. LET ME SAY THAT AGAIN: A PERSON WHO INGESTS DRUGS IS DOOMED TO BE A COLOSSAL FAILURE."

One of those rare moments of agreement. By and large I would agree that is true. It also includes so-called anti-depressants and othe "legal" "Pharmaceutical" "Mood Altering Drugs". If you want a real snootfull pick up a copy of the PDR - The Physician's Desk Reference - it lists all of the common Pharmaceuticals and Street Drugs and their Side Effects.

Now compare the Side Effects of Prozac, Zoloft, Luvox, or Paxil to Heroin. Three guesses which drug has fewer Adverse Side Effects?

By the way I can't help but add that Bela Lugosi - yes the famous Actor that played Dracula - was a Heroin Addict until the day he died. A failure?

Except for the fact that no one commits crime to get a fix of Zoloft.

The "side effects" may be less but the ensuing lifestyle MANDATED by heroin addiction far outweighs anything comparable from anti-depressants.

Don't you see?

If heroin is legalized, people will be able to sit around in a drooling catatonic state (as is their right, apparently, though why they'd want to be that way is anyone's guess) without having to first hold up liquor stores to get their fix!

Scientology's NarCONon quack medical fraud

by Fredric L. Rice Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003 at 1:57 AM
frice@skeptictank.org

I see some Scientology shill making the outrageous claim that their "NarCONon" quack medical fraud some how has an 80% success rate -- and at the same time the individual expresses amazement that the fraud "only" costs the victim ,000 for the privelage of being rooked and swindled.

The fact is that Scientology's "NarCONon" fraud is claimed to be a miracle and yet no Scientologist has ever managed to provide a shred of evidence to back up their outrageous claims. At the same time the crooks never bother to mention the fact that the quack medical fraud's procedures are "potentially fatal" according to research reports provided by general practitioners who have extensive experience dealing with quack fads their patients fall for over the years.

Check out http://www.crackpots.org/ for details on Scientology's "NarCONon" fraud and then check out the fact that the crooks aren't certified by any govermental agency to operate -- because they have ever managed to provide any evidence that they're even remotely effective.

The fact is that Scientology tries to hide the fact that their NarCONon fraud _is_ Scientology because they know nobody would be stupid eough to hand these crooks money if they knew who they were hadig it to.

One of the notoriously criminal cult's other fake fronts that's no different than their "NarCOon" fake front they call "Criminon." The exposure of _that_ fraud can be found at http://www.reprogram.net/

Tommy Canned You Hear Me!?

by FluxRostrum Wednesday, Sep. 17, 2003 at 8:56 PM
earth

As you have probably heard by now, on September 11, 2003 cultural icon Tommy Chong was sentenced to nine months in federal prison for his role in selling marijuana pipes on the Internet through his legally licensed company Tommy Chong Glass. Tommy Chong is the first person to be prosecuted under John Ashcroft's "Operation Pipe Dreams" and "Operation Headhunter," which shut down national glass distributors nationwide, resulting in the indictment of over 55 people.

Go to The Link and tell your reps what you think.
