On July 14, 1933 Germany began a campaign to revoke the citizenship of those considered "undesirable" by the government.

The people targeted were always a minority, and thus the relative alarm of the majority of the German people was minimized.

By revoking citizenship, Jews and other 'undesirables" became stateless individuals, without citizens' rights, "legally" held indefinitely without charge. And without citizenship, they had no papers (passports, etc.) with which to travel anywhere else.

In this capacity, they were ostracized without recourse to escape, and thus open to the endless scapegoating that followed.

The present-day American policy towards Muslims in this country, as well as anyone from the global south suspected of possible visa-violations is not the same, of course, but the similarities are striking and disturbing.

That someone in this country could be held in prison indefinitely without charge, based upon "secret" evidence points not to a democracy that holds inalienable rights in the highest regard, but to a society bent crooked with the fascist ideology of the secret police.

Here in this country, we must not be blinded by the alleged virtues of our past. Corruption of the mind and spirit within the ranks of those with the will to power can happen anywhere. We must be vigilant and ever mindful of the lessons implicit in our history.

I don't remember in the 1930's the Germans having to bury their servicemen and diplomats because of Jewish attacks.
No international Jewish terrorist organisation destroyed buildings in Berlin and slaughtered thousands of German civilians. The German War Ministry was not similarly damaged. The Rabbis of thousands of synygogues did not daily call for a holy war against the Christians and refer to them as 'apes and pigs'. So where are your similarities?

You see, Hitler used the anti-semitism that he saw around him, and focused it for political power. He convinced the German people that all the troubles they had suffered from 1918 on were the work of the Jew. He whipped up anti-Jewish feeling and this was eaten up by the vast number of Germans - and a good percentage of all Europeans. They believed that the Jew was at the bottom of all evil without a scintilla of evidence.

This is a little different from the situation we find ourselves in today. We have been attacked. We have identified our attackers as being from certain countries. We have endeavored to ensure that persons from those countries who are here on work or study visas are who they say they are, and are doing what they said they would be doing. We work to ensure the safety of our people against those who have, in word and deed, commited themselves to our eradication. Yet in the detention of persons who break our country's laws the Left sees Hitler, or 'striking and disturbing' similarites.

The reason the Appeasement mongers call George W. Bush a 'Hitler' is because they are largely a bunch of ignorant creatures without even a cursory understanding of history. To say that I disagree with your position is perhaps too mild nevertheless I shall try a reasoned approach.

Your position on this is an outrage upon the Constitution. Although I am not surprised. You would seem to have little respect for the guarantees and safeguards against tyranny that the Constitution was designed to defend against. Instead you would seem to wish to eviscerate the very foundation upon which our liberties are established and guarded.

First Amendment to The Constitution:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

You would seem ignorant of the reasoning behind the First Amendment. It was not written so as to guarantee the freedom to speak those things with which everyone agrees but to protect those who would raise their voice in dissent. In freedom, you have the right to speak as you choose and I as I choose. And to borrow from a famous line of 19th Century British Parliamentarian who while locked in heated debate spake thus: “I disagree entirely with what you say sir but would defend to the death your right to say it.” That is freedom and an honorable position.
The position you take is no different than that of the Stalinist left. Speech with which you disagree becomes “counterrevolutionary” or “revisionist heresy” and thus treasonous. This is absolutely Un-American.

Actions are another matter, but the founding fathers were very cautious in defining Treason as such had historically been misused to punish political enemies. CITIZENSHIP IS A BIRTHRIGHT and is not to be trifled with. We have a President not a Caesar, a King, a Tsar, or however much Duhbya might want it an Emperor. The Constitution prohibits such exercise to the executive. We have a CONSTITUTIONAL way of dealing with that:

“Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attained.”

Article Five of the Bill of Rights States:

“No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.”

Notice the phrase”...nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law...” Due process is that procedure stipulated under law which guards the accuseds RIGHTS. These are not priviledges granted by government, as Clinton, sometimes tried to misstate but Rights reserved to the Citizens to be secure in their persons.

Article Six of the Bill of Rights States:

“In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.”

The essence of a free society is the rights of the citizenry remain protected by limiting the power of government to exercise arbitrary and capricious authority. While our legal system has many defects, and much corruption, nevertheless it exists to provide a JUST resolution to matters of law. And the rule of law is what separates us from a Dictatorship - whether of Left or Right.
