postanarchism * poststructuralist anarchism
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/postanarchism
This group is being created with the hopes of stirring things up within contemporary anarchist theory and praxis by synthesizing with it key concepts and ideas from critical theory, post-leftism, poststructuralism, situationism, postcolonialism, autonomism,
postmodernism, existentialism, postfeminism, zapatismo and other contemporary critical-theoretical tendencies. Potential anarchist theorists of interest might include Todd May, Mikhail Bakunin, Saul Newman, Emma Goldman, Luis Gambone, Max Stirner, Hakim Bey, Errico Malatesta, Wolfi Landstreicher, John Zerzan etc. Parallels between the concepts and ideas of these and of theorists like Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, Guy Debord, Giorgio Agamben, Jean Baudrillard, Manuel De Landa, Michael Hardt and Antonio Negri, Judith
Butler, Chris Hables Gray, Luce Irigaray, Donna Haraway etc. might be brought to the floor for consideration. Discussion could include both theoretical and practical applicational aspects
of such syntheses; the title of the list "postanarchism" is a nod to Newman's call to move beyond classical anarchism into a more open and hybrid theory.

how bout getting some real community work done.... this is ridiculous mental masterbation.... we need alternatives now in the flesh... all this anarchist theory debate gets in the way of the most important elements of building community and resistance. everyday families can give a shit about these things, this is why anarchists and post anarchists arent getting anything done beyond charity food not bombs groups, conferences and informal organizations....
lets move beyond anarchism, yes, but actually get work in the community done.... build bridges!

Ok, what does going beyond anarchism look like?
What sort of community work?
Come on, some of the best activists in history have been great thinkers and readers too. Action and thought should go together.

Barter in goods and service. Create need and
service boards for labor and material outside
of government systems.
I move your old frig to the street or dump
and you help me with transportation.
I repair your plumbing and you help me fix my
heater, etc.
Any neighborhood has enormous resources in the
talent and energy of its people.
All it takes is organization and brotherhood.

Just rent the Mad Max movies from the early 1980s. Recall those future warriors doing battle with Mel Gibson.
That's Anarchism, very realistically portrayed. No need to live it, just rent the movies.

Sheepdog, where in your regime of organization and brotherhood does one acquire a BMW Z4 roadster?
Or how does one get all-laser Lasik eye surgery?
Or how does one get a bouquet of flowers, last minute, for the wife for Valentine's Day?
These examples may sound trivial or flippant, but the idea is anything but. The reason the West is the source of all R & D in all fields of human endeavor is that the West engages in the Capitalist system. From automobiles to xerox machines, all innovation happens in the Capitalist West.
How about just one example? There is enough money from drug profits for drug companies to spend on developing new treatments for a myriad of diseases. How many are alive today because of this fact? We have to hear about the wonderful state of Cuban medicine, how Cuba under Castro has more doctors per capita than the United States. That may or may not be true, but tell me, can you name a unique Cuban medical procedure, device, or medicine? They don't innovate. Why?
Similarly, the tertiary sectors of an economy would not exist if we engaged in a system of barter. It gets somewhat difficult to run a little photo-booth sized flower shop when people want to pay with pies or pigs or pedicures. Your system of barter would render most tertiary sector jobs untenable. We would be back to agriculture and small manufacture.
Tell you what. I've got a recipie for an absolutely wicked spaghetti and (turkey) meatballs. I'll make you a batch, and you get me that new car, Ok? Brother?

Seriously, one does not have to be really bright to see
that there is a communal resource in neighbors watching
out for each other.
Sure, a 'great leap forward' would end up in disaster but
dependence upon shrinking social supports ( hospitals,
schools) is not wise.
Everyone can contribute something who wishes to and there is
a great need now to organize for independence from a system
that excludes people unable to come up with cash which is
only a form of labor and material accounting under the
control of banking interests.

How many people in Iraq must die to fuel your BMW roadster and the system that produces it? Perhaps if you could learn to live more simply there would be less suffering in the world, but I know you are too much of a greedy inhuman fascist pig to sacrifice your roadster to make the world a better place. See you on the frontlines asshole.
