senator boxer on iraq

by e-mail from senator's office Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at 5:30 AM

fishing for a backbone?

I thought you would be interested in the following message.

===================================================

Dear Friend:

Many Americans are anxiously awaiting the resolution of the situation in Iraq.

I thought you would like to see my thoughts on the recent report by the UN

weapons inspectors.  You will find my statement below.

If you have comments or questions on this issue, please contact me. You can

email me through my Senate website using my webform at

http://boxer.senate.gov/contact/webform.html .

Sincerely,

Barbara Boxer

United States Senator

"The U.N. inspection team today gave us a mixed report on their progress thus

far.   Clearly, Iraq must do more to avoid the serious consequences called for

in Resolution 1441.  Just as clear to me is the need to allow the inspectors to

continue their work, which is what they asked the international community to let

them do.  Proactive Iraqi cooperation with U.N. inspectors is the best way to

avoid the devastation of war.

"The crucial question is, how do we get Iraq to disarm?  And the fact is that

having inspectors on the ground is the way to ensure that Iraq does indeed

disarm.  Let the inspectors do their work so that we can resolve this crisis in

a way that gets the job done, preserves the international coalition against

terrorism, and does not leave America alone in the world."
