my band, coughs, is going to be in an anti-war concert happening here in chicago at the a-zone on march 1st. and we're the best punk band ever. who needs rock stars when you can have horrifying, pulsing rhythms and screaming? people go ape-shit at our shows and can't get our songs out of their heads... there's going to be other bands that are better than springsteen there too, including experimental hip-hop headz Occasional Detroit.

hard core punk bands are great but a concert aimed at drawing a diverse crowd should stick to known names. just a suggestion.

I STILL SAY, GET THE ROLLING STONES! JAGGER'S COOL, AND HE WOULD DRAW THE CROWDS. IF THIS THING GOT OFF THE GROUND, IT COULD REPLACE WOODSTOCK AS THE ULTIMATE CONCERT (OR WORLD-WIDE CONCERTS). MONEY COULD GO TO MOVE-ON TV ADS. IT'D BE COOL! USE THE SYSTEM TO BEAT THE SYSTEM (WITH A BEAT). BRAD

Don't rely on super stars, thats whack. Dreaming of a day you get saved by famous knights in famous armour ain't enough.
People don't need Celbrity People to know what is right. TRY being yourself and people MAY JUST LIKE WHAT you are saying, even if you've never been in People Magazine.
Otherwise, keep waiting for the Knight to save you, and he never will. Never has.
DIY until you die. Punk rock also equals ballads and watlzes.
DIY means, DO it yourself! Thats the end of punk.
DIY, or wait for Knights....You DECIDE. Don't let People Magazine decide for you.
Word dis.

Thanks to Jello Biafra (and DK even if they suck now, what they built is timeless) and Chuck D (and the rest of the PE crew) for awaking the fire in me that can never be extinguished!

I want to know, are people oblvious that social movements do not have to be endorsed by celebrities.
Yes, its fine if some people who happen to be celebrities want to join in, just like anyone else, and lend whatever skills they have.
yes, i know the "stark" realism of which is often spoken, that people will only come when a name brand endorses something.
I agree, this is a social reality, many people are members of the cult of celebrity. yes, bono can get people out, maybe. but, the actual cause of an event will also get people out.
are you telling me 200,000 people in DC, another 100,00 in San Fran (estimate) did not show up because no celebrity backed their cause? or that a million people have not marched in Italy, because Bono was not there to tell them its cool to march?
if we don't break away from the useless conditioning, it will continue to determine to artificially determine the parameters if what are "realistic" and unrealistic behaviors.
In the middle ages we depended on lords and peers and faqirs and rajas to tell us how to think. now we let celebrities shilling for corporations tell us what is cool to think about.
be normal people. think for yourself. cos I can't think for you. That's a paraphrase of a George Harrison line. George Harrison was in the Beatles. Maybe you have heard of him. So now, you are officially sanctioned by a celebrity to "think for yourself." Go forth and prosper (a paraphrase of a Star Trek line).
"this message was brought to you by a celebrity reading the lines she was paid to read by a writer employed by a corporation."

Rock Against The War Concert is being besieged by both Star and Underground groups wanting to play. Organizers are now thinking of either a woodstock type of fest, or a multi concert world performance (though a would tour hasn't been ruled out); all monies will go to sponser media ads against the war.

Unless someone out there actually spells their name the same as mine (faithful viewers, here's a hint: I never post that late at night!), they should have enough confidence to post with their own name/moniker, or at least know me well enough to know that I am not/never was a Bill Clinton fan, and that I know enough about music to rate Clinton on the Sax somewhere below Biz Markie on the piano.

289 Million Americans Avoid Peace Rallies
(2003-01-19) -- Police across the nation estimate the crowd that avoided recent anti-war demonstrations at about 289 million. Americans from coast-to-coast voted in absentia against criticizing the Bush administration for Iraq's failure to comply with U.N. resolutions.
Anti-anti-war demonstrators gathered in grocery stores, shopping malls and private homes to proclaim their disagreement with protestors marching in the streets of Washington D.C. and San Francisco.
"Going about my regular Saturday routine is my way of saying I disagree with the radical left-wing agenda of the anti-Bush crowd," said college student Melanie Sampson, who spent the day preparing a term paper for a literature course.
Police reported no unusual problems with the droves that stayed away from the protests.
"It was a normal Saturday in America," said one Sheriff's deputy.

I suspect, that for every Anti War protester there is at least 1,000 others who believe the exact same thing.
Protests are only the tip of the ice berg.

But, wait. Bush and Sharon were both elected in democratic elections. Your boys Saddam and Kim Jong Il were not. Bush and Sharon head up governments with functioning legal systems, independant media, and legal checks and balances. Your boys Saddam and Kim Jong Il do not.
So, you ARE planning a pro-fascist concert, and I suggest you get the Hitler Youth drummers in there before they get booked for another gig.
