Demonstrators gathered at the entrance to Universal City last night to protest the presence of Henry Kissinger; speaking at the Universal Amphitheatre in North Hollywood as part of a lecture series sponsored by the University of Judaism.

Henry Kissinger, considered by many to be an unindicted war criminal, is wanted in several countries for questioning about his long career of, among other things, destabilizing and overthrowing legitimate governments, secret bombings, and foreign invasions. He is responsible for the blood of millions of people in Vietnam, Cambodia, Chile, and East Timor.

Kissinger has expertly surrounded himself with a brilliant cult of celebrity, hob-knobbing and seen over and over again in the company of the richest and most glamorous society. In so doing, he has created himself into the ultimate celebrity statesman, accruing credibility and trust in the eyes of gullible Americans who are so easily led by glitter and glam.

Under the bright smoke-screen lies a dark side of lies and deception; secret dealings with heads of state in the historic tradition of European statesman who believed that governments had the imperative to seek power for the elite on the backs of the citizens.

Protesters gathered to let the world know that many in Los Angeles are aware of his crimes and don’t welcome him here.

The exuberant rally was organized by the Workmen’s Circle/Arbeter Ring Southern California District and was additionally endorsed by a broad coalition of groups including CISPUS (Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador, Coalition for World Peace, GALBO (Grupo Apoyo a la Lucha Bolivariana), LA Catholic Worker, LA Freedom Socialist Party, National Lawyers Guild, Office of the Americas, Radical Women, Seeds of Simplicity, Women in Black, Tendencia Revolucionaria, Refuse and Resist, and the Wages for Housework Campaign.

The gathering was also attended by a group of Christian Jesus Freaks, whose loud comments and (bigger than everyone else’s) colorful placards added to the sense of inclusivity and diversity. All are welcome.

Anyone got pics of the war criminal Hank "Hannibal" Kissinger running for cover, just like his old pal Augusto Pinochet--who is hiding under the pretense of "bad health" to avoid prosecution?

I also attended the protest, but I was disappointed at the extremely low number of people who showed up.

At the high point of the demo there were around 68 people. Which means we were nearly outnumbered by the Police and the right wing weasles who pretended to be "Christians." What a bunch of creeps. The showed up with huge banners extolling "Jesus as Savior"... but these were no ordinary Christians... these were fascists. One held a red white and blue sign that said "Support Bush"... with pictures of tanks, bombs, guns, and figher jets around bushes name.

Kissinger was speaking... and only 68 people came to protest. Shame on you Los Angeles.

I arrived at the protest with others from Not In Our Name, with a huge 3' x 6' poster of Netanyahu holding a big bloody butcher knife with the caption "THIS IS RELIGION?" underneath. We held it in front of the Zionist Jews that were pretending to be Christians, until the yelling got louder and they were pushing me towards them trying to get them to back away. I decided I didn't come here to push people, so I moved to the other corner where the Judiasm people were going up to the amphitheatre.

There were basically two different "protests" going on here. One against Kissinger and his war crimes, and one against the occupation by Israel. A huge banner saying "Occupation is Terrorism" was kiddy corner from me, along with a few Palestinian signs.

I couldn't believe that we were not allowed on the sidewalk on the first corner because, as the Police told us, Universal owned the sidewalk there. Nice of these big corporations to enforce there "no tresspassing" policy on what used to be "our" sidewalks!

Henry must be tried as a war criminal in the International Court of Justice ASAP. US cooperation in

this matter, along w/ our stepping back from our bellicosity toward Iraq, withdrawal of most of our troops

semi-occupying so much of the world, a cessation of our support for the thugs running Israel, a cessation of our support for World Bank/IMF, etc. exploitation of the

3rd World, & an immediate drastic reduction of our own weapons of mass destruction would go a long

way toward reducing threats of terrorism to Americans.
