New anti-war/peace campaign....

by The World.... Monday, Oct. 21, 2002 at 6:29 PM
lowertheflag@yahoo.com

This is a revitalized campaign designed to make the anti-war movement more visible.

Please join this campaign in making the general public much more aware of how large the anti-war/peace movement really is. We can’t rely on the media to spread the word for us and there are a lot of people out there who are afraid to speak out against US aggression because they feel as though they are alone in their beliefs. Every activist in every community around the world needs to start participating in extremely visible anti-war actions, which highlight the true issues behind the September 11th attack, and the subsequent US military action.

There a just a few suggestions when participating in this campaign: 1) please email lowertheflag@yahoo.com when you have participated with location and pictures if possible so that the extent of the campaign can be observed, 2) post the declaration in the area of the lowered flag, preferably on the flag pole itself so that people will know why this action has been taken, and, most importantly, 3) post in/on all independent media sources, list-serves, etc. It is also vitally important that in staying with the declaration we continue these actions indefinitely. Continuous posting on list-serves, lowering flags again if they are put back up, even if it means doing it every day. People everywhere are afraid to speak out because the media is demonizing anyone who’s speaking out against the actions of our government and we need to let them know that they are not alone.

Lower the Flag Campaign

Declaration:

Whereas: the government of the United States of America has been and continues to be responsible for the deaths of millions of innocent civilians proving that it is truly the greatest terrorist threat to the world. This campaign of terror began with the slaughter of some 44 million Native Americans and continues today with the deaths of more than ½ a million Iraqi children as a result of US sanctions, and more recently the killing of more than 3,000 innocent civilians since the bombing of Afghanistan began.

And…

Whereas: the system that is the government of the United States has created a state in which the entire world currently finds itself in a state of cultural, social, economic, and environmental distress, we, the people of the world make this declaration.

We call on all peoples to lower the American flag to half-mast as a sign of mourning for the millions who have died at the hands of the United States government and also turn the flag upside down as this is the signal of distress.

We first make the demand that the United States government and its allies halt the so called “War on Terror” until they have first put an end to their own acts of terrorism which have fueled the anger and hatred that have inspired the retaliatory terrorist attacks against them.

We make a plea for people to spread the word of this campaign worldwide and we make it clear that this campaign is to continue, everyday, until the United States government publicly apologizes for each and every innocent death that it has been responsible for and include in its apology an offer of full reparation for these deaths. We also call on the continuation of this campaign until the United States government begins to show proof that it is making a serious effort towards social justice. We demand that it start with the abolition of the death penalty, an end to the war on the poor, and a complete dismantling of the WTO, World Bank, IMF, and the Organization of American States including NAFTA, GATT, and the FTAA..

Isn't it problematic

by T-Mex Monday, Oct. 21, 2002 at 10:06 PM

that your "whereas" clause containsonly false statements??? Does that not undermine the rest of the agenda. . . .

Eg. the oft-referred to 1/2 million dead Iraqi's is from Saddam Husseins ministry of propaganda. . . why would you believe that?

Further, the sanctions are imposed as result of Saddam's continued refusal to abide by the cease fire, so he is the one to blame.

In addition, the US sends 50 billion per year to Iraq in its food for oil program. . .

As for the Native Americans, most of those died by disease, not as the result of any acts of aggression.

Moreover, as much as this is blasphemy to the Left, the Truth is that Native Americans were a violent war like people before the Europeans arrived, and continued in this matter once the Europeans arrived. Did Euros kill Native Americans? Yes. Did Native Americans kill you betcha.

The goal of the Euros, however, was to bring these people OUT OF THE STONE AGE where they had lingered for eons. Native Americans who adopted Western Culture faced/face were readily accepted in Western Society and still are.

The Left so despises Western Civilization, with its focus on INDIVIDUAL LIBERTIES that it has romanticized the stagnated, primitive, violent, illiterate, wheeless, literally stone age culture of the Native Americans beyond any semblance of reality. Its pathological, actually.

T-Mex? False statements. Do your research before calling someone a liar.

The United Nations itself released an estimate of 1.2 million dead due to the sanctions.

Would you expect the US to stand by while some other country tried to starve us out?

Food For Oil - Not only is it outright unethical it has been proven not to work. The food rarely makes it to the civilian population.

The Native Americans were systematically wiped out. Historical fact. One instance they were provided with blankets that were intentionally infected with small pox.

The majority of the Native American tribes were peaceful. Not all, but the vast majority were.

"...bring these people OUT OF THE STONEAGE" Oh, please...your ignorance is showing. They were destroyed for the land and it's resources they occupied. Hmmmm....kinda reminiscent of our impending invasion of Iraq.

And as for you Bush Admirer...aww forget it. Your too ignorant to bother with.

You see. . .

by T-Mex Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002 at 6:52 AM

you use ONE instance with the blankets, which was late in the 19th century, and pretend that all Native Americans were the victims of germ warfare. . . a lie.

Food for oil doesn't work for one reason only. . . Saddam Hussein. He's the guy Bush wants to get rid of. Do you see why that would be a good idea?

And here's a challenge for you. . . come back with a site UN statement saying 1.5 million people have died due to sanctions.

What you may find

by T-Mex Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002 at 7:29 AM

if you take that challenge is a 2001 survey conducted by the UN revealing that 11.4% of Iraqi children are chronically malnourished. That is a far, far cry from saying that 1.5 million have died due to UN sanctions.

And again, of course, ignored in this is the fact that the sanctions could end TODAY, if only the Iraqi leader who just received 99.6 % approval from his people, would only abide by the cease fire agreement.
