A presentation of Mindullae for Korean Community Development.



Los Angeles, CA- South Korean media activist Myoungjoon Kim, a member of

the progressive media collective Labor News Productions (LNP) will present

videos concerning the South Korean labor movement. From trade unionists

battling armed policeman to the organizing efforts of disabled workers,

these films offer a provocative and eye-opening introduction to the vibrant

South Korean labor movement.



Since the IMF economic crisis in 1998, South Korean workers have endured

massive layoffs and government crack downs. Admist this turmoil, workers

joined with media activists from LNP and began strategically using video

and electronic media as part of their political activism.

After the screening, Myoungjoon Kim will discuss his work with LNP, as well

as the workers organizing for a new political party, their desire to

reunify Korea, and their struggle against the presence of US troops in Korea.

About Myoungjoon Kim:

Myoung-joon Kim is a member of Labor News Production (LNP), a progressive

video production group in South Korea. LNP produces documentaries and educational videos on the labor movement, leads training workshops in media production and hosts the annual Seoul International Labor Film Festival. Kim is also in charge of Korea's first public access media center, MediACT which provides low cost training and facilities for public access and independent film and video. A member of PRISM, one of the main organizational advocates

for public access, media democracy and video activism in Korea, Kim also

serves on the boards of several progressive internet and media groups in Korea.

About Mindullae:

Mindullae for Korean Community Development works to promote the development of the Korean American community in the greater Los Angeles area. Mindullae works on both local and international issues. Based in Koreatown, Mindullae sponsors Korean language and history classes, a cultural poongmool (Korean drumming) workshop, and works to increase
