ACTION ALERT! PROTEST BUSH's VISIT TO L.A.

Please forward & post.
Sat. Aug 24, 7:00 am
The Regency Club, 10900 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles. (corner of Wilshire and Westwood Blvds.)

pResident George W. Bush, a former corporate criminal, will be in Westwood 7AM on Aug 24 to raise bribes from other corporate criminals at a rapaciously priced "fund raiser" for current corporate criminal and gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon.

Come to let Shrub know that the scam is over.

Celebrate a world united against Shrub's war.

Tell Shrub we won't die or kill in Iraq so he can finally out-do his daddy. If W so badly needs to show up his daddy, he should learn how to use verbs. Until then: Mangle syntax, not Iraqis!

Location of protests

by Hail to the Chimp! Friday, Aug. 23, 2002 at 6:28 PM

Where will protesters meet? That depends on the tactical situation......but here is the lay of the land.

The location of the Regency Club is four traffic signals east of the 405 (San DIego) freeway on Wishire Blvd. The Wilshire Blvd offramp is the second exit (northbound) north of the intersection of the 10 (San Bernadino/ Santa Monica) freeway and the 405 freeway.

Wilshire is one of the major east-west arterials in Los Angeles. The protest site is near the stops for the MTA Metro bus (big red buses). This stretch of Wishire is one of the busiest traffic arteries in the nation.

If the LAPD closes this stretch of Wilshire to traffic, the resultant traffic snarl (and ever present "news" copter coverage) will ensure the protest is widely covered by the local media - who are always starved for images to stick between the ads.

The UCLA campus is approximately five blocks directly north of the protest site. Westwood Blvd (which runs north-south through the intersection where the protest is located) is the main access to the UCLA campus from the south.

If the LAPD blocks Westwood Blvd, that will snarl the traffic for as new students descend on the area for the start of the school year....bringing the voracious TV news crews out.

Parking on the street in Westwood is free before 10AM (and a quarter each 15 minutes thereafter!)

Parking on the UCLA campus is $7.00 (ouch) - there is a parking kiosk on Westwwod about seven blocks north of the protest site.

You can ask for parking in lot 32 - it is located just north of WIlshire and about two blocks west of Westwood Blvd ("catty-corner" northeast of the Federal Bldg.). If lot 32 is "closed", the next closest lot is Lot 1 - the parking lot for the Medical Plaza. Many patients have Saturday appointments at the medical offices there (Bldg 100, 200, or 300).

If the attendants at the kiosk tell you to just use the automatic pay point at Lot 32, you're better off buying a parking pass directly at the Westwood kiosk (they must sell you one if the lot is open). Oddly enough, the automatic pay point at Lot 32 tends not to work on weekends when protests are anticipated in the area...

Post-Protest: For those who are so inclined, the Westwood Brewing Company - our friendly neighborhood brewpub - is two blocks north of Wilshire and one block east of Westwood. Salud!

????

by crap Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 at 3:04 PM

if you haven't noticed the media could care less about protests. There was HARDLY any coverage of Oregon and HARDLY any coverage of previous anti war demos.

Its a media Blackout because we all just LOOOOVE the shrub right?

Stop getting all hyped up about mainstream media showing anything and figure out a way to show it yourselves!

How to get on TV

by Bush Trimmer Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 at 5:51 PM

This may sound stupid, but...

Given the mainstream media's hunger for any excuse to show nakedness under the guise of "news" -- e.g., the day of the big protest in Washington, they showed the "New Maxim Calendar Girls" instead-- I'll bet that if some guys and gals wearing nothing but bodypainted slogans showed up and started jumping up and down, they'd get on the evening broadcasts.

Sex is always being used to sell violence. Why not use it to sell peace?
It worked in the '60s.

traffic on wilshire stopped 405!

by iraqflashback Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 at 9:10 PM

In 1990, when bush1 bombed Iraq, a car slowed downed to read the protest signs they had made for the thousands of anti-oil war w/Iraq protesters. The crowd came out in front of the car and spilled onto Wilshire in front of the Federal Building and next thing you know. all 8 lanes of traffic were blocked and by the time they got home, they watched from above via copter-cam and lo and behold the traffic on the 405 was stopped as well, bringing coverage to a huge protest that was ignored until: the freeway came to a halt and the Wilshire stoppage was the reason. Here we are, 12 years later and smirk will be 4 blocks on the other side of the 405 but basically in a similiar situation. That war lasted 2 weeks, but really never stopped, and here we are declaring we will get rid of Saddam, so why didn't we do it last time, so bush2 could follow up and finish the job, giving Saddam 12 years to what? Looks like hes following orders from the people who sold him chemicals for gas warfare.
You know who that is,
