Aristotle: "Free government rests on free men armed, while basic to tyranny is mistrust of the people, hence they deprive them of arms."
Remember what happened in Rwanda when they armed a certain section of the population. Slaughter of that same unarmed group!
In Israel, the Palestinians are neither free, nor armed. Think about that.
Peace is the goal, and justice is the way.
Please think, hard, before espousing the notion of violence (the only purpose of a gun is to kill someone). There are thousands of reasons to reject utterly the path of causing suffering for any reason; they have been articulated by great thinkers and writers - please read them: M.K. Gandhi, Albert Schweitzer, Martin Luther King, Jr., and many many others. Go to afsc.org for resources, or search nonviolence on the net.
It is a Huge step, in the wrong direction, to arm yourself or to encourage others to do so. It brings us down to the level of those we believe we are better than. It plays into the fear they are using as a weapon against us. It gives them justification for attacking, jailing, or oppressing us. It creates an endless cycle of retaliation where both sides become the "bad guys." The most lasting revolutions and reforms in history have been non-violent ones - Gandhi's and ML King's, for example. There are many more reasons. Please study this.
Violence is the enemy, not people.
"Non-violence is our strength."
- Cesar Chavez
"Who lives by the sword, dies by the sword."
- the Bible, somewhere
Please don't jeopardize our movement this way.
