JOBS CREATE JOBS

by Ellen Thursday, Jun. 13, 2002 at 12:49 PM

From the book "The War Against Progress" by Herbert E. Meyer.

From the book "The War Against Progress" by Herbert E. Meyer.

"The only way to expand opportunity - the only way to make progress - is to create jobs."

Now here's one, that is so simple, but a bureaucrat will never figure it out - they are so stupid, they are dangerous: "Jobs Create Jobs."

There is no such thing as progress without growth, or without technology, or without science."

"Jobs are created through the process of economic growth."

"When we say a country is making progress, we mean that more and more people are becoming FREE to actually make these choice for themselves, rather than trapped in circumstances, places, jobs, styles of life they don't like, by forces beyond their power to control."

"The business of creating jobs is one of the riskiest and most complicated in the world. It requires an enormous amount of intelligence, skill, ambition, common sense, and plain old-fashioned luck....always uphill battle...more likely to fail than to succeed. Moreover, jobs are very delicate."

The key is. . .

is Freedom. People must be free from restrictions on their economic opportunities. In most of the developing world, the biggest restriction on economic freedom is the government. Sadly, some in this nation wish to have our government place more and more restrictions on economic freedom. This is always done in the name of a good cause, but to unfortunate results.

the key is creating

by ribeee Thursday, Jun. 13, 2002 at 9:10 PM

The key is creating instability so that people are kicked off the land and forced to flee to the city to find some scrap of food and do anything at any price to work.

Progress is also a generator of huge social dislocations that lead to civil war, riots, food shortages, genocide, drought, famine....

Lets cheer for jobs, the choice between working in a sweat shop or as a prostitute.

The choice between poverty stricken bohemianism and mind-numbing temp-work.

(I know this sounds didactic and black and white- this is only in negation of the first poster's progress oriented boosterism.)

Do you know what real progress is, a sufficient health care system that covers everyone.

a health care system that covers everyone?

You mean a health care system that forces you to pay for my necessities.

While you're at it, why do you not pay for my food. I'll die without that.

And, I need rent money.

Please post your address so I can stop by to pick up my money.

(If you don't give it to me volunatarily, I'll bring some gendarmes to force you to. THAT IS MY RIGHT AS A HUMAN BEING!!!!)
