Recent incidents at the campus of the University of California at Riverside show increasing bigotry toward women of color. This is yet another example of what the trend in social/government institutions is in this day and age-no accountability to anyone(especially people of color) for their actions and behavior.

These incidents were brought to light in a student-run alternative publication *The Downlow* which is an expose of the lies and deception being put out by the "mainstream" campus newspaper,*The Highlander*. Over the past year, *The Highlander* has been publishing a steady stream of racist, homophobic and sexist stories, cartoons etc. An example of note is one put out by a contributing writer John Delaney, that has admitted having attended local meetings of neo-nazi organizations. This was published in their Feb. 18,2002 edition. Things came to a head on April 18 when a rally was held denouncing the racist attacks perpetrated by *The Highlander*. Brian Bolton, a photographer for *The Highlander*, intimidated and threatened to physically attack a student who was a woman of color because she refused to be photographed by him. He charged toward her and raised a fist as if to hit her when she held up a flyer to keep him from taking her picture. A professor, Dr. Dylan Rodriguez attempted to intervene while videotaping the incident. Another student was also videotaping the rally and caught Bolton bumping Prof. Rodriguez in the head with his camera. Bolton later filed a false report with campus police alleging harassment by the female student and Dr. Rodriguez. During the rally, Bolton was clearly seen directing his harassment only at women of color.

These allegations/investigations are still pending, but this is but one of many examples of the racist/misogynist tendancys of *The Highlander* and the complicity of UCR's administration with this bigottry.

One way we can give *The Highlander* a clue is anyone with an extra copy(s) of Michael Moore's book "Stupid White Men", send these to *The Highlander* at their address:
