There seems to be an epidemic of pornography on Independent Media websites. So far, we have seen the naked woman on this site and on New York's website and New York's site also has a sexual scene. These all offend most women and men, especially most of us who are political activists. If it offends you, I suggest you join me in not posting to these websites until this pornography is removed.
This is an independent website for everyone. I suggest you take your middlce class activism to the Republican party.
Indymedia readers are not the flacid tv drones that you find in other mainstream media. While porn is beneath most of our tastes, we are not going to be so shaken with offense that we will turn up our noses and flee in moral terror. That's one of the many things that sets us apart from moral hypocrites and control freaks on the right and left regarding images of sex.
'Fed'is probably in league with the cowards that shot and paralyzed Larry Flynt when he was bravely if rudely standing up for all of our rights to freedom of expression. Porn will be edited out if it gets overly posted here just like it was on Raise the Fist. We arent going anywhere except to demonstrations and events that demand the feds step down.
I think porn is fine. Especially amateur porn, which is like the porn with that indy twist. I think it's great that you don't have to be beautiful to make porn, which is just a pictorial representation of something that billions of people around the world do every day. However, this website is for news of interest to progressive grassroots activists, people interested in politics and current affairs; it is not a porn site.
The editorial policy on this and other indymedia websites is to edit the newswire "after the fact". Thus, some posts will be up a day or two before they're deleted.
We do this to preserve freedom of speech.
One person wrote, "take your middle class activism to the Republican party" as a response to the concern that Pornographic posts were being made to Indymedia. Another person wrote that "moral hypocrites and control freaks on the right and left regarding images of sex" are whining about Porno on Indymedia.
Such people entirely miss the point being made. Indymedia is being attacked and undermined by forces hostile to it.
I saw one Pornographic post of a nude Black Man... he had an enormous erection, the caption was: "Arafats Boyfriend!"
That post was anti-gay, racist, and designed to subvert the Indymedia project. The post had NOTHING to do with a liberated mentality on sexuality... and opposition to it had NOTHING to do with "moral hypocrites and control freaks" who are opposed to sexual imagery.
Indymedia is UNDER ATTACK by those who wish to discredit, malign, and subvert it. Discussions about being Gay, opposition to conservative values on the topic of sex, and other issues pertaining to liberated sexuality should be encouraged and supported on Indymedia. But for goodness sake... PLEASE, understand the difference between open and honest discussion in the form of posts on Indymedia, and the openly hostile and subversive pornographic posts being made by those who wish to DESTROY Indymedia.
Stop wearing blinders. If you personally support Porn... fine. You are free to argue your position on the matter. But posting Porn images to Indymedia infringes on the rights and sensibilities of those who OPPOSE it. And if you think only Right-wing, Christian Zeolots oppose Porn then you should think again. This has nothing to do with "middle class" sensibilities. Many militant Feminists who think of themselves as falling into the realm of Gay, Socialist, or Anarchist thought OPPOSE Porn as a form of violence against Women.
At any rate... the Porn posts on Indymedia have not been in conjunction with posts advocation free sexuality. They have been posts made in open hostility to political progressives, are insulting to Women, and have been homophobic. Such posts have NO PLACE on Indymedia and should be taken off the message boards as soon as they are uploaded.
Free Sexuality YES! Freedom of Speech YES! But also defense of the Indymedia project by protecting our platform from those who wish to see it dead.
Pink's right.
The people posting these images are using sex images as a negative weapon against progress.
Because the porn posts are not news of interest to the readership, they'll be hidden as they are found.
If you come across one, drop a note to info@la.indymedia.org, or to imc-la-web@regenerationtv.net, and it'll get hidden soon.
