STOP THE INS RAIDS AT THE AIRPORT ! RALLY THURS .MARCH 28 AT 11 AM

The INS is conducting mass raids of immigrants at LAX and in other locations

around the Southland, sowing panic and terror among thousands of people.

Eyewitnesses report that there is clearly racial profiling involved, and that

people are being chased, endangered and injured. People being taken away can

include both undocumented immigrants and permanent legal residents who are

not carrying their green card on them, or who have past convictions.

This Thursday, the immigrant community and all people for justice will

respond with a

rally (and press conference) beginning at 11AM at the Los Angeles

International Airport, at the Encounters Restaurant building, followed by a

march. The goal is for many hundreds of people to attend, and a large

coalition of immigrant rights groups, trade unions, and faith based and other

social justice groups are mobilizing on an emergency basis for this important

protest. Just a few of the organizations involved include: CHIRLA,

Metropolitan Alliance, KIWA, the Garment Workers Center, the Interfaith

Coalition, HERE, SEIU Local 1877 (Justice for Janitors) , CARECEN, Hermandad,

MALDEF, and many, many others. Your presence is needed too!

Note: Permits are being sought for this demonstration; there will not be

civil disobedience at this event. Arrests at the airport are federal.

--Are punitive, inhumane and discriminatory--they violate basic civil rights,

civil liberties and human rights

--Are politically motivated

--Do not change basic migration patterns

I have also witnessed an increased number of INS raids on the Greyhound Bus lines. Ihave travelled Greyhound for years on roughly the same routes and NEVER have I seen this many INS/Border Patrol checks!

On a two day trip from Texas to California I witnessed 5 checks, seemingly at random. They were taking away not only those without green cards, but thoses with green cards, as well as a few that seemed to have "out dated" cards.

They split two families as well. When I questioned the increase I was given no answer. Clearly it is racial profiling. No one knew where these people were being taken, but I managed to overhear one conversation between INS officials and a card carrier. From the fragments I gathered that they were not going to tell the carrier where he was being taken nor how long he would be detained. He was confused and mentioned that the procedure was out of the ordinary from previous checks.

So this isn't just an LAX problem but nationwide.

Does anyone have an idea (besides the Nazi-like administration in office and the so-called war on terroism) why there is this increase in hostile, silent INS raids??
