Volunteers Neede for March-11-02 Protest In Irvine Against TAco Bell

by Chantel Friday, Mar. 01, 2002 at 10:26 PM
tbboycott@yahoo.com

Boycott Taco Bell!!!

Below is a list of Volunteers that the Orange County

Boycott Taco Bell team is looking for to help out on

Monday March 11 during the Boycott TAco Bell Protest

and Rally. Please email us at tbboycott@yahoo.com or

you can call us at 949-436-1188 and be sure to leave a

message

thank you very much

1)PEACE KEEPERS:

We are still looking for some good souls who are

willing to be "security", or "peace keepers", on

Monday, March 11th. If you are willing and able to

help in this way, please e-mail Don at

donwhite4justice@hotmail.com or Tbboycott@yahoo.com

(Keep in mind that all Peace Keepers will be meeting

at Santa Ana Memorial Park at 8:30 AM on Monday, March

11th, for a pre-march planning meeting.) PLEASE PLEASE

volunteer for this, or pass this email along to

friends whom you think would be intrested.

2)MEDICS:

We need anyone who has medical, EMT training and would

like to volunteer on March 11 to help in case of any

scrapes or dehydration that might happen during the

march. If you cannot do that and would just like to

donate first aid supplies to us, please let us know

and bring them along with you on Monday March 11 to

the protest.

3)COMMUNICATION:

Peace Keepers, Legal team and Program coordinators

need to be able to speak to one another during the

march and the rally on Monday March 11. If you have

any communication equipment like walki-talkies and

would like to donate some of those items for our teams

to be able to use for the about 9 hours on MOnday

March 11 please email tbboycott@yahoo.com and let us

know. We will work with you to make sure that your

items remain secure and are returned to you at the end

of the rally.

4)BUSES:

We still have buses available for any of you who are

organizing large numbers on your campus, in your faith

community, workplace, neighborhood, etc., and

encourage you to aim at organizing 40 -50 people and

reserve a bus by calling (941) 839-3970. The deadline

for requesting a bus is Wednesday, March 5th, at 5:00

PM.

5)ART:

Please contact tbboycott@yahoo.com to find out where

the next Orange County and Los Angeles Art making

party will be. make your own signs, banners, puppets

and bring them with you on March 11. We also need any

noise makers or drums that you would like to bring

along

6)MEDIA: Got any suggestions on how to get the word

out to the community leading up to the March 11th

convergence? If so, please let us know and we can

help you follow up on leads (941.839.3970) or email

tbboycott@yahoo.com. Also, if you need media

advisories, in Spanish or English, please write to

tbtruthtour@aol.com. Media is KEY to building

momentum and we need your help!

7)OUTREACH: Perhaps the highlight of the meeting, and

something all of you may not be aware of, was that

when I arrived home after the meeting, I got the

calculator out and added up the commitments you all

gave me. I didn't stretch ANY of the commitment

numbers (!) and this is what the calculator read:

820. Wow! -- I had no idea when we were going around

the circle that the numbers would add up to this.

What's very encouraging and exciting about this number

is that it came from the 25 or so of you who were able

to attend the meeting, and didn't include "outside"

(people coming in from around the country), union,

faith community, community-at-large, legal observers,

or the bulk of our Orange County commitments. Great

work! And now, with two full weeks to go, we ask that

ALL OF YOU work DAILY at reaching out to new

communities/organizations, etc. Invite your

neighbors! Ask churches and community organizations

to send 1-2 representatives! (More, if possible, of

course.)
