Why Are We Shocked By Enron?

by Borlight Monday, Feb. 11, 2002 at 6:55 PM

Why are we shocked by Enron? ... Corporate Media covered it up for years!

Why is America, and in particular the mainstream corporate media, so shocked by what Enron executives did to their workers? The answer lies in a mixture of limousine liberal bias and myopia. These corporate tools, disguising themselves as news networks, are more concerned with creating tabloidesque scandal than finding the truth behind the evil. The reason for this is clear

yeah, enron sucks. imc better go fix that situation!

let's get real. imc has a small audience, and it's up to the READERS to spread the news, not the other way around.

I'm thinking . . .

by watcher Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002 at 6:07 AM

I'm thinking that maybe corporate media can't look too closely at the Enron debacle because Enron is not really an exception. Deregualtion was happening all over and there are plenty of other Enrrons in the wings. Surely corporate media can't pretent to be shocked at each in turn?

Or can they? It wasn't too long ago that Argintina was promoted as the IMF/World Bank poster child - the pormise of what good things can happen when we all embrace globalization. Now it's like no one in corporate media want to look in that direction least they be contaminated with the stink of a cruel economic truth. Now the folks at teh WEF are promoting China as the new model that proves the that globalization works. No one is shocked any more at the absurdity of that notion. It is like corporate media has lost the capacity for critical analysis.

So let them blather on about the crisis de jur. The US media have largely lost all credibility in the eyes of the rest of the world. Some in this country are only just now learning to ignore them.

Indy Media is More than www.indymedia.org

by Borlight Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002 at 1:39 AM

A free and Independent Media is more than just www.indymedia.org. I agree that a pie-in-the-sky belief that some Internet site can solve the problems caused by corporate goons is wrong. Independent Media involves active participation by people who give a damn about issues that affect their lives. Show up at public hearings and ask the questions that corporate media will not. Write letters to the editor of corporate rags like the LA TIMES or more progressive publications like NEW TIMES or LA WEEKLY and pose REAL questions and offer solutions. Hey people… Get Off Your Ass and Be Heard!

There is more to projecting an alternative viewpoint than dressing like a Puppet at some anti-globalization event. A REAL Independent Media is open to all viewpoints. If we are true in our demand for free speech we should not limit view points to only those to the Left of corporate Democrats … that's nothing more than politically correct fascism! All points of view are welcome provided they are responsible and don't seek to harm others through ignorance and mean spiritness … our two elite parties do that on their own.

Remember the phrase, "Question Authority?" Do it … and be prepared to respond in an intelligent and articulate manner when you are challenged. Challenge corporate beliefs … because they are narrow minded. Challenge corporate whores … because they are lazy. Challenge corporate media … because it is WRONG!
