ALERT!!!

The Los Angeles Independent Media Center has been taken over by Americon.

Americon purportedly bought out the I.M.C. for $500 plus a $50 bonus to John Kawakami.

“I never made a dime off the IMC. God bless Americon”, said John.

Since the takeover, the people at the IMC have witnessed rapid change. The offices were transformed over night into Americon’s New Corporate Headquarters. The new IMC resembles a small scale Contemporary Art museum. It now consists of four rooms: The Modern Art Gallery and Boutique (MAGAB), The Room of Explanations, The Office, and The Land of Ziploc (which to this day remains a semi autonomous zone).

Americon’s Financial Visionary, Mr. Yokoyama, devised a plan for the opening of the new headquarters. He decided to start off with an Art Show debuting the latest Art Movement … Symboljism.

All the staff at the new IMC recognize the influential potential of Symboljism, and they have accepted the Symboljism, as they have no other choice.

The Symboljist movement started in the year 2000 in the hip new Artist community of Macarthur Park, Los Angeles, where “How much is your rent?” is the most commonly spoken phrase these days.

The show spotlights all of the founding Symboljist artists and it brings in some of the Art objects that have inspired them.

Symboljists tend to list many influences, from the ritual of the Catholic mass to ancient wall paintings - from Crass punk graphics to cigarette advertising.

Symboljist artists are breaking all the rules of design, which dictate that too much symbolism is too confusing. The Symboljist motto is, “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing”.

The Artists in this show focus on current issues such as corporate capitalization on the tragedy of September 11th and the use of propaganda to manufacture consent for going to war. “Such Art can be dangerous to Americon security. Why feel threatened by revolutionary ideas when we can swallow them whole and spit them back in the form of advertisements and products? Why feel threatened by radical Art when we can simply recruit the Artists and designers and cash in? Other people’s ideas are the bottom line. They make us money by feeding into the public’s cynicism and fear. They also, when in the right hands, help deflate the threat to our great system”, says Miss Demerol,
Mistress of Propaganda.

A poem could ruin your whole day. A painting could inspire self-doubt. A banner could inspire kids to take action and get someone out of jail, thus threatening Americon’s judicial system itself. A pencil doodle could spark a revolution…

By creating an Art Museum within its corporate headquarters, Americon encourages the co-opting of anti-authoritarian Art. Americon’s Art schools train young Artists for exhibiting in Americon’s Art museums and for working in its design studios. Americon’s design studios work hand in hand with its ad agencies, which, in turn, have a special relationship with its media conglomerates. This is why the new IMC is an ideal place to host this ground-breaking show.

Come to the new Americon Corporate Headquarters and support the important work we’re doing to preserve our murderous standard of living.
