Cal or are going to come down here for a few days I URGE you to come check out this FREE teach-In to hear Michael Parenti the author of 15 amazing political books speak. it's going to be great and we've worked hard on putting it together. It's going to be at a Community college so come support our kick ass organizers at Saddleback College this coming Jan. 31.. Saddleback College is located in Mission Viejo CA in South Orange County Nex to Laguna Beach, which is about halfway point between LA and SD.. around 1hr. south of LA and 1hr North of SD.

You are invited to come Thursday, January 31st, for a teach-in organized by Class Action (a student organization at Saddleback College). This teach-in will take a look at acts of terrorism against democracy and freedom around the world. Countries such as Guatemala, Nicaragua, East Timor and Iran have all suffered terrorist attacks, many of them had hundreds of thousands of innocent lives lost.

Special guest Dr. Michael Parenti will be giving his talk on "Globalization, Democracy and Terrorism" at this event. Dr. Michael Parenti is considered one of the nation's leading progressive thinkers. The Los Angeles Times has said that Parenti ³digs at the roots which . . . sustain our public consciousness." He received his Ph.D. in political science from Yale University in 1962, and has taught at a number of colleges and universities. He is the author of fifteen books including:

* Democracy for the Few (St. Martin's; seventh edition, 2001)
* History as Mystery (City Lights Books, 1999)
* America Besieged (City Lights Books, 1998)
* Blackshirts and Reds: Rational Fascism and the Overthrow of Communism (City Lights Books, 1997)
* Dirty Truths (City Lights Books, 1996)
* Inventing Reality: The Politics of News Media (St. Martin's; second edition, 1993)
* Make-Believe Media: The Politics of Entertainment (St. Martin's, 1992)
* Land of Idols: Political Mythology in America (St. Martin's, 1993)

His articles have appeared in Prevailing Winds, The Humanist, New Political Science, Nature, Society and Thought, The Nation, Z Magazine, Dollars and Sense and numerous other publications. He has also appeared on radio and television talk shows as one of our nation's preeminent political analysts to discuss current issues and ideas from his published works. Dr. Parenti's talks and commentaries are played on radio stations to enthusiastic audiences in the U.S., Canada and abroad.

Free food will be served by Santa Ana and Long Beach Food Not Bombs from 12:30 to 1:15. Dr. Michael Parenti will be speaking at 1:30.

A free CD of Noam Chomsky's "New War Against Terrorism" will be given out along with an information packet at the event. Noam Chomsky's lecture was delivered at MIT on October 18th and specifically addresses the crisis in Afghanistan.

CDs, movies, books and other educational merchandise will be available for sale.

WHEN: Thursday, January 31st, free food at 12:30 PM, Dr. Michael Parenti at 1:30 PM
WHERE: Saddleback College, 28000 Marguerite Parkway, Mission Viejo, CA 92692. Will be taking place in McKinney Theatre at the Fine Arts Complex (FA)
ADMISSION: Free and open to the public; Parking is $5 for a daily permit or $0.25/ hour at the parking meters. There is also free parking areas around the campus.

DIRECTIONS:
1) Take the 5 Freeway
2) Exit Avery (make a left off the exit if you're taking the 5 South and make a right if you're taking the 5 North).
3) Make a left on Marguerite.
4) Make a right on Saddleback Road (you will see the Saddleback wood sign).
5) Pass College Drive.
6) Make left on Theatre Circle. You will see a parking lot on your right. Please park in the metered parking spots and pay for 4 hours ($1 cost).
7) The McKinney theatre is just up the hill. It is very easy to spot.
