Friends, This Tuesday, January 8th at 4:30pm there will be a Zoning Appeals
Hearing that will determine the future of Club Blue, and we seriously need
your support. If you are not already aware of this, Blue is the club on Las
Palmas where Dungeon, Stigmata, Skin, and Blue Monday are held. And it was
also the location for the Velvet/Clockwork Orange New Year's Eve party.
Unlike The Ruby, The Pool or 7969 Santa Monica we (Bruce Perdew, Mike
Stewart & partners) own and operate Blue. A few of the competing Nightclubs
& Restaurants in the immediate area are trying to make Blue out to be a
public nuisance, and that stricter rules need to be applied for us to remain
open. They have made false accusations, and outright slanderous lies about
our venue because they want us shut down. And they have aligned themselves
with some of Los Angeles's political elite, and have the ear of the Zoning
Department. Specifically, these complainers would like to see Blue: -Close
every night by midnight -Limit capacity to 400 people They are trying to
force Blue to live up to these unrealistic conditions to put us out of
business, so our competitors can purchase the property for redevelopment. We
need YOUR help! If you can, PLEASE show up at this meeting to voice your
support for Blue. I realize that this is late notice, but we've spent most
of our energies working on our defense and haven't had a chance to
communicate this to our e-mail list members. You don't have to fill out any
forms and you don't have to speak up. All you need to do is SHOW UP - it is
YOUR presence at the hearing that will convince the powers-that-be that Blue
is not a nuisance, a danger or a blight on Hollywood as our opponents have
stated. Just to give you some background, before Blue opened, it was The Las
Palmas Theater - a decrepit old building that had fallen into disarray. And
in the not too distant past, the stretch of Las Palmas where Blue sits was
one of the worst drug-dealing prostitute laden spots in all of Hollywood.
The arrival of Blue contributed in many ways to changing this. First, a
$700k+ makeover to the theater gave it the dark but classy interior that
most of you know all-too-well. Next, a $50K+ sound-proofing system was
installed to insure that the noise didn't disturb any of the neighboring
businesses. Finally, security guards were brought in to not only the club
and it's exterior - but to the surrounding streets and parking lots to
insure not only the safety of Blue's patrons - but also to curb litter,
public disturbances and crime. The point is - Blue adds value to Hollywood.
It is one of the renaissance businesses that is helping give Hollywood a
face-lift and re-emerge as a cultural center of Los Angeles. The address of
