Prose about botched terrorism and PEACE

by habanero Monday, Dec. 24, 2001 at 6:01 PM

A bit of prose about the botched terrorist response to the 9-11 terrosim and where the real solution is.

Fighting Terrorism, Being Terrorism...A Commentary on Peace

Great pinnacles of capitalism and war are struck in the U.S. They fall and nearly 3000 people are killed 'Evil has struck our united country with this act of war', says the President, 'We must destroy evil'

Thousands of soldiers are mobilized to Afganistan The poor people of that area run for their lives for the borders to escape. On their way many are killed in bombing attacks. "We are looking into this", the U.S. responds. "Our intelligence gave us this information"

The Red Cross works diligently in that area to help heal the peaceful wounded. Bombs hit the Red Cross building, not once, not twice, but three times, killing innocent people. "We are looking into this", the U.S. responds. "Our intelligence must have made a mistake"

More U.S. soldiers are killed by U.S. fire and bombing than by the "evil" they have gone to destroy. "We are looking into this", the U.S. responds. "Our smart bomb was not given correct information"

The months of war waged upon this region culminate in the swearing in of a new hope for Afganistan. The interim government that is to bring balance and understanding across its many groups. Several delegates travelling to the Kabul, the capitol, for this event are killed by U.S. bombing. "We are looking into this", the U.S. responds. "Our intelligence told us they were leadership, so we struck the leadership"

A video tape is released incriminated Usama Bin Laden for masterminding the "evil bombings". The U.S. translates the tape and releases it to the world and the world sees the "evils of his thinking". A few days later an independent translator notes in small articles throughout some of the U.S. media that the U.S. translation had disregarded the naming of some Saudi clerics and a Saudi government official by Bin Laden.

The U.S. is still searching for the Bin Laden, but they don't seem to be as interested any more. There is a "truism" about this says the U.S. "the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence". What is a "truism" one might think...is it something just less than the Truth? "Well, maybe its time to look elsewhere for terrorists" says the U.S. "Iraq or Somalia look like good targets" "But not Saudi Arabia, they are our friends" says the U.S. ...at least the friends of some of the U.S. corporations that help arm their military.

At home in the U.S. while the war is waged the government quickly restricts the liberties of its people to help protect their liberty. Something about that seems strange, but the people are told this is what needs to be done.

The government immediately provides millions of dollars of people's tax money to the corporations hurt by this event. The corporations quickly fire thousands and thousands of people. The corporations prepare for a controlled situation in Afganistan so an oil pipeline can start to be built and oil extracted from its grounds. The families of victims of the WTC are offerred hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep silent in any suit against the corporation. Are the people being helped or the corporations?

The people watch and read the ongoing barrage of media that touts the successes of the war. The flags are raised, sometimes three or four at a time, out of patriotism...or is it fear? A couple of months pass and one starts to see the signs of a rotting materialist patriotism. The flags being run over at 70 miles per hour. The signs that used to demand that "God Bless America" have lost a 'B' and now say "Godless America". Do these patriots care for their country or not? Maybe they're too busy watching TV to see their recently purchased icons decaying?

The only hope for this country and this world are the thousands of people standing for peace. These people do not march, they do not yell, they do not rant and rave. These people are meditating, these people are hugging, these people are creating dialogs with their neighbor. These people are looking local and seeing how they get their food, their water, their shelter, their love. The greatest anarchy that can be achieved is to BE PEACE.

May God and Goddess bless all that stand with PEACE.
