More ugly, insipid, tripe, from LA's most egomaniacal, self serving, publicity hound. For how long will we have to put up with the hideous scrawls of this so-called Artworld Super Star? Isn't it enough to see his garbage wheat-pasted to every available surface in LA? I'm so tired of Banal's feeble attempts at Painting... and his weak-kneed liberal politics, but especially of his "in your face" - "I'm the greatest political Artist the world has ever seen" attitude.
Go away Banal... return to the back pages of the LA WEEKLY, where your crappy drawings were published next to the Sexploitation ads.
Or are you just another right-wing shill, polluting indymedia w/ your mindless venom?
maybe I'm naive and not art-saavy, but I've always liked Conal's stuff. Why is it banal and not good?
Ive never really liked his work.
Kind of iconic stuff that pokes fun at individuals but never really talks about the whole system.
MAybe this one is a little different, but hes known for his newt and bush and gore images in my head. They are all kind of silly character assasination things that seem to be a continuation of politics as we know it.
Yeah, Im glad he does his shit, but by far I think the best thing he does is take people on wheat pasting adventures,
like a skills-share. Everything else is hype for me,
images that are too much in the muck of this whole muck. Just politics as ussual
I agree with congol. The posters are, well, not that great; but the value of learning and practicing postering is valuable. We just got to get some _better_ posters.
Regarding his overbearing style; I suspect that's part of th e reason he is still doing the job. If you arn't that much of an egotist, that sort of thing would wear you down pretty fast. That might be why we don't see _better_ posters. Plus, he's been doing it so long he can get out a bigger crowd than most anyone. Let's work on an alternative!
I posted a related story(about what I did when I saw a Opps poster that had been ripped down and US flags posted in it's place).
