Why not make sure the peace movemnet continues to be dissmissed by the sheeple by splitting us up into patheticlly small groups. Encouraging those who see us to think of us as UnAmerican Terrorist Sympathizers.
Scenario:
You're driving down the street. You see 40 - 100 people chanting and holding signs in a city of MILLIONS. Regardless of the cause ... Could you possible take them seriously?
This Saturday we expected to come out and support the movemnet in no less than 4 places AT THE SAME F'ing TIME! This is ludicrous.
What was that I heard about divide and conquer? ... hummm. Maybe this is a consipracy too.
Well, I'm gonna go to the beach. Me an the 10 others that show up there will make our pathetic little peace sign and fend off the McTourists all by our lonesome.

Seriously people, let's be safe out there.
Small gatherings just make us look like "loonies" to the sheeple; and invites altercations.
One loud voice WILL be heard. Let's stop fuckin' around.

That was an error on my part - there's no contact email for that peace sign event. I'd make a different sign, but it's rude :-)

A bigger event is also a lot more fun!
What's alarming is that there are three events all in that one area. If they were located, say, 30 miles apart, it wouldn't seem like such a big deal.
Who could object to having one event in Riverside, and another in Santa Monica, and a third in Huntington Beach? But three on the Westside, with two within walking distance of each other? Might it not be more productive to sequence these events so that the big demo could be used to mobilize people for the art project?

what are some of the reasons why these groups won't synergize forces??? perhaps it's time to hold a candle to ourselves, and look more towards solidarity of action, rather than being concerned about belonging to on specific group, or action sponsor.
wouldn't it be nice if there was a gathering of 1,000 leaders and no followers...
re: earlier posts... the portion re: 3 actions w/i walking distance at the same time is assinine... we're wasting our efforts, and energy.

Anybody else see a glaring example of ...the kind of exemplary communication amoung factions that surely stop the war?

All right FluxRostrum, I got your point. The left is terminally fucked up and we will never satisfactorily come together to amount to anything. This is actually the first time anyone has pointed this out to me. Thanks for pointing this out and rubbing our noses in it. Thanks also for all the thoughtful suggestions and critical analysis. I vote we elect you exalted leader and you can tell us all where to go next. Wherever you go, I will follow. Deal?

If that's what I was after. I would have said: "screw all these people that can't come together for once. let's all meet at ..... and let the organizers stand on the street by themselves". The missed point here ... is that while some of us (not just me) have pointed out that it might be more productive for us to protest in mass; not one response has come in from anyone that can do anything about it. Not one. Except to further promote their particular protest event. The point is to COMMUNICATE.
In making these observations I had hoped to open a dialogue between the factions that could serve the one thing that we all seem to agree on. The one thing that is at the forefront of everyone's minds. The one thing that currently has the most potential to harm us all, the world over. And of course I'm talking about sex (just kidding, lighten up).
The one thing is world peace, and that's no joke.
But if you've got cancer and on your way to kemo when you get run over by a semi-truck... you're going to stop worrying about the cancer for a little while; until you tend to you're CURRENT life or death situation.
Currently, in my humble opinion, there are 2 life or death situations that have been forced upon us.
1) Stop the war! (your particular reasons don't interest me in the least right now. They are ALL valid.)
2) Stop the proposed rape of our Civil Liberties! (once again, your particular reasons don't interest me in the least right now. They are ALL valid.)
Everything else can wait.
Apparently my sometimes sarcastic way of presenting my opinions here has lead at least someone to think I want to run things and that couldn't be further from the truth.
I lived in D.C. for many years and saw and "participated" in many protests. I know first hand how closely the size of the protest is tied to "public" opinion of the protestors. People are more likely to join a large group than a small one (yes, because they're sheeple), media is more likely to air footage of a large group than a small one, and counter protestors are less likely to attack a large group than a small one. And large groups are more fun! These are all good things don't you think?
I say these things not to condemn our organizers, not "take over". I say these things because I want our numbers to grow, because I want the media to hear our plea for peace, and because I don't want the only media coverage we get to be when some war monger attacks us and causes more harm.
And by the terms "we" and "our" I mean peace loving freedom seeking earthlings of all ages, races, genders, sexual orientations, sizes, colors, religions, physical abilities and any other special group of beautiful living creatures that wish there to be a peaceful co-existance on this planet. (we can worry about the universe later)
America needs to wake up, and so do we.
See ya out there, peace.

Last Sunday over ten thousand people gathered at an impromptu protest of the war in New York City. They assembled in Times Square which is named after the New York Times (considered by many corporate media fans to be the "paper of record") . By all accounts it was a glorious event. Plenty of fun. Successful by many standards. Two Nobel prize laureates showed up to address the crowd. A good time was had by all. I have some photos to prove it.
This is perhaps what is meant when it is suggested that we get our shit together and coordinate our efforts. All those who really believe this could make some phone calls and put some actual effort into it instead of writing about it. I'm tired of reading other peoples 'wish lists' for what the movement should do and why it is a good idea. If you believe it, work for it and I will never criticize your efforts.
It does have to be pointed out, however, that the ten thousand people and the two Nobel laureates who gathered in Times Square got not a single paragraph of coverage in the New York Times. Mind you this event occurred right outside their window. It is not as if someone maybe forgot to send them a press release or something. This fact calls into question the tremendous emphasis placed by above posters on appealing to the media - as if media representation alone makes your event legitimate. What exactly do you think it will take before FOX admits that their war mongering is distasteful and decide it would be better for all concerned if they rooted for peace? Don't hold your breath, denial is not a river in Egypt.
Personally I don't care if only ten people show up on the street corner speaking their peace. That is plenty legitimate for me. And there are plenty of other creative ways to show your disgust with the war. I don't think people are sheep and I resent the concept. Let creative expression flourish - be alive! The strongest statement you can make does not require an assembled crowd to prove its value, only an audience of some sort. It is your message, not your mass, that will stay with people. Whatever it is you do just write up your experience and post it the IMC so I can hear about it and gain inspiration. Your wonderful work keeps me going. Thank you.
