Come on out and support Denise Robb's Campaign

by An Activist For Denise Sunday, Sep. 09, 2001 at 2:54 AM

Let's get out there and help elect a Green, and a lifelong activist, to the LA City Council in Tuesday's Fourth Council District election. I received the following impassioned call to support Denise Robb's campaign via e-mail.

Dear Social Justice Activist Friends:

My friend of over 10 years Denise Munro Robb is running for Los Angeles City Council. The election is September 11, which is next Tuesday. I have been volunteering for her campaign in the time I have available and urge you to do the same.

She raised money for me both in my campaign and when I was injured by the LAPD, and helps everybody involved in social justice issues via her emails. I have known her at least 10 years and have learned from her and been inspired by her repeatedly. She comes from a family with a history of labor activism, and is as dedicated, knowledgeable, and outspoken about issues of democracy and justice as anyone I know. It would be exciting to have her on the city council.

Her recent endorsement by the LA WEEKLY over 9 other candidates indicates she has an extroardinary chance. She also has raised the ,000 she needed to obtain matching funds.

Please make an effort to contribute time and or money to her campaign during these last few days. Just getting to know her is worth a week of volunteering.

She particularly needs volunteers for precinct walking (door hangers and talking with voters) and phone banking. To help with either, meet at the Peace Center (8124 W. 3rd St. L.A.) between 3:30 and 4:00 M-F, or at 11:30 AM Saturday or Sunday. Matt, who is helping to coordinate volunteers, says they have been getting about 5 volunteers each day for both the phones and walking. He says they are hoping to get 50 or more each day this weekend, which would be especially important with the election next Tuesday. Matt says volunteer shifts generally last 3 or 4 hours, but any time you can contribute would be helpful. You don't have to live in L.A. to help.

Her campaign number at the Peace Center is 213-745-ROBB (or 213-745-7622) if you have any questions. Otherwise, just come on down!

Ralph Cole
