Independent novel speaks to the young, tech-savvy, and recently jobless on a search for meaning
With thousands being laid off practically every day, today’s recently unemployed are struggling to find something to do with their newfound free time. Many young knowledge workers are suddenly left lacking a sense of meaning. After several grueling years dedicated to building a worthwhile, yet now elusive dream, they are left contemplating the past and struggling for a true sense of identity.
The recently released, independent novel by Scott Neiss, “the state that I am in,” deals with these very issues…and is quickly becoming an underground favorite in Seattle. Scott, himself, is an MBA graduate in his mid-twenties and currently works in a cutting-edge software startup in Seattle. He has experienced the personal devastation and struggles of friends and colleagues over the past few years. He as taken his experiences and created the unforgettable character, Daniel – an ambitious, yet thoughtful and sensitive knowledge worker on a search for true beauty and meaning the midst of what Scott refers to as, “life as a Disturbed Infobeing.” When Daniel reaches an exhausted breaking point, he conjures up the clear, simple memory of his youth in a small, Midwestern town, and is haunted by the memory of his life-altering love affair with a gorgeous Eastern European exchange student named Izabela. This philosophical, yet eloquently written novel takes the reader on an emotional journey through a demanding, high-tech world, through the stifling reality of a small Midwestern town, and on a fascinating journey to Eastern Europe.
“the state that I am in” is an excellent read for those who are disenchanted with today’s Oprah-endorsed brand of best-sellers. It speaks directly to a generation at risk of letting go of a beautiful dream world, and one that is starting to actually believe the boring realities perpetuated by others.

Hey I'm sure it's a wonderful book and the person who thought of posting the review here probably has a great career in marketing but am I the only one that resents the use of an IMC site to promote this guy's book? And to then suggest that the thing is available at Amazon adds insult to my injury. Ask you local library for a copy.

I agree w/Michael, this is a standard press release book ad which doesn't belong on IMC. especially, as Michael notes, in that it suggests buying the book from amazon and barnes&noble.
btw--in addition to supporting your local library, there are collectives/networks of independent booksellers like Booksense, if you are looking to buy books.

I'm really amused by his remark..."today's recently unemployed are struggling to find something to do with their newfound free time." What about their struggle to pay the rent and the bills with their newfound lack of income? Welcome to global capitalism Mr. Recently Unemployed. Better pray your "newfound" unemployment doesn't become PERMANENT unemployment. And you can thank corporations, like the ones you're trying to sell your book through (such as Barnes and Noble), for contributing to it.

LA-IMC people, please take this off. It is obviously a press release. Well, spam in this case. And check the guy's address, Washington. Why is it on LA's site?
