FOLLOWUP ON G8 SOLIDARITY PROTEST AT ITALIAN CONSULATE IN LOS ANGELES

by X Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001 at 7:03 AM

follow-up on the G8 solidarity protest at the Italian Consulate in Los Angeles

On August 20th, at 12PM there was a solidarity demonstration to protest the police killing of Carlo Giuliani, and the brutal police repression against the activists and the policies of the G8 in Los Angeles. The demonstration took place at the Italian Consulate, and was greeted with much police repression. The demonstration began with about 12 people. There was a police helicopter circling around the area, along with a silver car (narc car) with two cops following and stopping next to people who were arriving at the demonstration. Apparently, the narcs did this to intimidate anarchists as they arrived, they also greeted them by calling out their names. There were about 3-4 cops inside the consulate behind the glass windows, a police car with two cops in it on one side of the consulate, another police car was across the street, and another police car on the other side of the consulate. I believe there were also police cars further down the street. There were also undercover police dressed in normal clothes taking pictures across the street. Several people began to leave the demonstration as several others just began to arrive. There was a line of caution tape in front of the consulate with a sign that said, "Do not cross, violators will be prosecuted by law to full extent".

As the demonstration continued, the narcs in the silver car parked across the street and began taking pictures. They also began pointing out several anarchists. Then another 4 cops arrived and walked directly into the demonstration, 2 of them had video cameras and started profiling, they also started asking questions. We then realized we were not only being heavily profiled by the cops and FBI, but we were also outnumbered by the police. So most of us decided to get out of there and leave. We were gone for about 15 minutes before we came back to find that about 5-6 more comrades had just arrived to the scene. So we then decided to continue the demonstration, noticing that the narcs, and the other 4 cops had left. The demonstration continued on for about another 30-40 minutes, then we all decided to leave together. All-in-All, about 20-24 people showed up in total.

The police and the consulate had prepared for a large demonstration, but unforantly they didn't get one.. This being LOS ANGELES, we should have had at least a few hundred people out there. These motherfuckers murdered our comrade. People still remain in prison, and people are STILL missing. THIS IS FAR FROM OVER!!! We must not let this moment die down!!! We must seize this opportunity to rise up by all means necessary. We must continue to protest in front of the consulate and US federal buildings. The fascist United States is just as much responsible for Carlo's death as Italy is. If the law enforcement's come out there prepared for a big demonstration, with helicopters, riot gear ..etc. Then hell, LET'S GIVE THEM A BIG FUCKING DEMONSTRATION!! We must not be intimidated!! We must have lot's of people out there ready to face them down!!! The whole world is watching! We must continue to protest in front of the Consulate, and we must get larger every time!

Re: protest on A20 @ italian consulate

it's important to take note of this heavy police presence that's being reported about here. Genoa and LA have a direct connection, Reuters reported that the italian police were trained by the lapd and sheriffs. blood is on the hands of the pigs in this city.

i think the time, at noon, had something to do w/ the small turnout. working people can't make that time. probably after 4pm would bring out a greater presence.

we often forget how powerful we are, but given the helicopters and number of pigs around, we once again see that the enemy never forgets. perhaps we should take ourselves as seriously as they do.
