Lawsuit Filed Against D.C. Police over Upcoming IMF/WB Protests

by International Action Center Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001 at 5:42 PM
actioncenter@iacenter.org (202) 543-0716/(202) 427-3999 c/o P.O. Box 50134, San Diego, CA 92165

The Latin American Solidarity Conference and the International Action Center announced August 13 that they are filing a lawsuit against the Washington, D.C. police to block them from cordoning off a large part of D.C. during the next World Bank and International Monetary Fund meetings September 29 and 30. The groups claim that their constitutional right to protest these organizations is being denied by the police actions. (Posted as a public service by Mark Gabrish Conlan of Zenger's Newsmagazine.)

Dear San Diego Friends,

We're forwarding you this press release from the DC Action Center because you may not, otherwise, hear about this development in the ongoing struggle to push back the Bush attack against the right of the people to take to the streets to oppose the IMF and World Bank. In addition, we have heard this afternoon from DC that the announced press conference was very successful, with at least 87 members of the national and international media attending. We'd also like you to know that this press conference will be rebroadcast on C-SPAN at 5 pm and 8:56 pm tonight and at 2:41 am tomorrow morning.

And please don't forget: All out for Mumia on Friday, August 17th. Assemble at 4 pm at Broadway and Front Street. Spread the word!
