Proposed FERC settlement shortchanges CA working families.
About 250 union members and community allies rallied at noon today at the Roybal Federal Building in downtown Los Angeles, demanding a full and fair refund of the billions of dollars gouged from consumers by greedy power generators.
Billions of dollars in the state budget surplus, which could have been invested in housing, transportation, education and workforce development, and other vital services, have vanished into the pockets of huge multinational energy corporations like Duke, Enron, Reliant, and Dynergy.
"Two months ago, when union members took to the streets, FERC said it would never impose price caps. Working people forced FERC to take the first step, and we'll keep the heat on until FERC does the right thing," said Art Pulaski, executve secretary-treasurer. "Working people want all the money back."
This was the sixth action of "Stop Rolling Blackmail", a statewide campaign of the California Labor Federation. The first action took place in Oakland on June 6. Subsequent actions took place in Fresno, June 13, Huntington Beach on June 16, San Jose on July11, and San Diego on July 17.
