Salo, or the 3 Days of Genoa

by Jonathan Dale Rapoport Tuesday, Jul. 24, 2001 at 11:45 AM
jrapoport@hotmail.com Contributing Freelance Journalist, IMC Israel

As the United States Navy’s Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Enterprise and her battlegroup held their position off the coast of Italy to ”protect” The G8 Summit, the Italian secret police carried out a brutal attack on the journalists in the offices of IndyMedia Italy in Genoa. This brutal attack has propelled The IndyMedia Revolution into international fame. Read on to find out what the Italian secret police were really after and what this beckons for the future of The IndyMedia Revolution.

What were the Italian secret police after when they so violently attacked the journalists and offices of IndyMedia Italy?

The bloody photographs from the offices of Independent Media Center Italy in Genoa and the horrendous audio recordings of the Italian secret police attack recall scenes from legendary Italian Film Director Pier Paolo Pasolini’s film ”Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom.”

In ”Salo,” four fascist Italian Generals take 8 of the most beautiful teenage boys and 8 of the most beatuful teeneage girls in Italy to a secluded villa on island named Salo off the northern coast of Italy and subject them to relentless acts of sadistic torture.

Pasolini dared to create a devestating and extremely graphic Freudian interpretation of the fascist period of Italian history and penetrated deep into the minds of his four fascist Italian Generals.

The horrendous attack by the Italian secret police on IMC Italy in Genoa suggests that the fascist period of Italy is not entirely over.

Not insofar as those who dare to speak out on behalf of the opressed and suffering masses of people of our world are concerned.

Pasolini was murdered 2 days after ”Salo” was released in 1975, allegedly by Italy’s secret police.

Has the IMC Movement been murdered by the attack on IMC Italy in Genoa by Italy’s secret police?

No!

The IMC Movement is no longer a movement.

This is the start of The IMC Revolution.

The IMC Revolution has now gained the attention of the mass media all over the world.

The curiousity of the people of the world about this thing called ”IndyMedia” is reaching new heights.

What did IMC Italy have that prompted the Italian secret police to attack them so violently?

THE TRUTH.

We have taken the printing presses and the cable and satellite television systems from the corporate controlled mass media conglomerates who hide the truth about the suffering of the opressed masses of the world.

When the truth about the opression and suffering of the downtrodden masses of the world is brought to bare, all the crude oil of Arabia cannot be removed from the hands of the world’s power elite.

Nobody can buy IndyMedia, nobody can silence IndyMedia, nobody can control what goes onto the printing plates and into the presses in the printing rooms of The IndyMedia Network.

We have at long last manged to liberate the mass media from the famous maxim of A.J. Liebling,

”The freedom of the press belongs to those who own one.”

revealing truth

by glip Tuesday, Jul. 24, 2001 at 1:58 PM

though I think that Indymedia Rocks, I dont think that truth is such a powerfull salve that when revealed the world immediately falls into a change. No, there is truth in the power that governments yield, that if anyone goes against this order, they get shot. That against indymedia's truth is a system that feeds people (and keeps others hungry) that allows people to irresponsible over their lives.. Unfortunately, that is true too.

Along with the truth indymedia provides, the antiglobalization movement has to provide alternative power that can counter the facist order today.

Thoughtful commentary. Part of the "IMC Revolution", as you suggest, is the introduction of the electronic printing press to the masses.

This is the first time where people of average means can create and distribute their own voices, free from the financial enslavement of prohibitively expensive production tools.

Re: AJ's maxim. Are you sure it was AJ? How about Mencken?

That is a great maxim!!
