Who all is going to these demos? Are there any black block/ militants showing up or just people asking the capatalists to be nice?
Ray asks, "Who all is going to these demos? Are there any black block/ militants showing up or just people asking the capatalists to be nice?"
One way to know who's going to these demos is to go yourself. Then you can file your own report. This *is* an open publishing site, remember?
Your comment implies a sharp distinction between "black block/ militants" (it's "black bloc," btw) and everyone else as "people asking the capatalists to be nice." This sort of dichotomous thinking is identical in form to white supremecists or any other reactionary group you can think of. People almost NEVER fall into two sharply distinct groups, and this sort of mindlessness is inevitably quite destructive of progressive political movements.
If it weren't for everyone else in the movement who's not a part of black bloc, there wouldn't be anything like the movement that exists today & this site wouldn't even exist. In fact, one could argue that black bloc is exactly what the corporate media likes about the movement--it makes a good sensationalist story that doesn't engage any higher cortical functions in the audiences they cultivate for the next advertisement with it's alternative rock or hip-hop soundtrack.
So let's at least think a little more carefully than that, okay? The right has it's militants, too. But they don't have consensus, and they don't have respect for people working by consensus. We have a more demanding practice.
