Why the School of the Americas is Needed and how father Roy can help peace in SA

by + Saturday, Jul. 21, 2001 at 12:37 AM

Normally we associate the School of the Americas with violence. This is only partly true: yes, some of the graduates of the school have murdered peoples and become dictators but the list contained inside shows that terrorism is real

April 8, 2001:

The Peoples Liberation Army decides to bomb the offices of the political party PERU POSIBLE in the poor, working class and middle class city of Ayacucho.

The explosion desstroyed part of the building owned to the political party of Presidential candidate Alejandro Toledo.

Shining Path Sendero Luminoso also bombed the offices of APRA near the main square in Plaza de Armas placing the life of taxi drivers and others in danger.

April 8, 2000 Using a strike filled with violence Shining Path attempted unsuccessfully to stop all elections in Vilcashuanmam Ayacucho a very small and poor town.

To further unrest and sow absolute terror the mayor of Pacampausas district Ayacucho was murdered. This was done by forcing a mini-bus off the road shooting the mayor and wounding two of the passengers whom were mis-named reactionaries.

May 16, 2001 A very small group of PLA terrorists of the Shining Path planted abomb at the National Election Board in downtown Lima placing many lives and valuable offices in danger. Several innocent police were wounded.

May 16, 2001 Mining interests are never extremly popular. The enrich huge corporation and despoil large areas in Africa, Australia you name it. In Peru they provide employment: 39 seperate and extremely damaging attacks in the mining areas in 9 towns in Ucalayli,Ancash, Pasco, Huancavelica Cusco

May 31, 2001 More than 50 vehicles travelling along a small road from Ayacucho to Apurimac river valley.

June 2 A important bus was completely gutted by a firebomb during the elections leaving poor people without any service.

May 31 Heavily armed terrorists forced innocent villagers to march with them at gunpoint to indoctrination sessions which they refused.

Note: Stick this in your pocket: An extremly small band of thugs in the CPM-L Janasakhi group went to the Chelapur telephone exchange and instead of allowing 3 days of free telephone calls destroyed the entire network with expensive detanators.

What School of the Americas protestors myself included can do is to not associate with groups that support these activities. Do not think of them as political prisoners. They are not and many deserve the harshest penalties their countries and governments can meet out.
