I'm the woman in the backround of this picture. The guy on the drums is a close friend and comrade of mine. He's not a cop.
If we allow this kind of groundless jacketing of people to go on in the movement it wil create distrust and confusion and instead of serving the interests of the people, it will run counter to those interests. Instead of bringing the large and diverse movements of the people together is will divide and factionalize us.
I'm not saying whoever wrote the caption is deliberately trying to do harm to the peoples' struggle. They may not know that this is a completely wrong method of responding to very real fears of undercovers, spies, etc. We all know there were undercovers out there in SD. There are undercovers everywhere--in LA, SD, Seattle, DC, Philly, etc. The solution is not to randomly point the finger at one another. I was at the courthouse when Geronimo Pratt was released 20 some odd years after being targeted by COINTELPRO. The FBI used EXACTLY these kinds of tactics to divide the movement, pit panther against panther and destroy the organization.
We need to colletively figure out how educate people on the dangers of engaging in activity that helps the cops and hurts the people.
I suggest people read the Brian Glick book called The War At Home. It gives a history of how movements from the Anti War movement to the American Indian Movement were targeted by the FBI using tactics such as these which playing on peoples' fears and lack of understanding on how to deal with these questions.
In Struggle,
Xochitl

As an attorney familiar with civil law, I must tell you that you are opening yourself up to civil liability by posting this picture, or any picture for that matter, and identifying the individual as an undercover police officer. The individual making the post would be held responsible (liable) as well as the sponsoring host, which is the Independent Media Center.
If injury were to come to this person, and it could be shown beyond a reasonable doubt that it was a result of this posting, you would pay. Take a look at the successful case by the Poverty Law Center against the KKK and Thomas Metzger. There are many cases on file to back a finding against you in a matter like this.
And as the young lady pointed out, the individual is not an undercover cop. Are we on a witch hunt? One must be careful as they focus suspicion upon another individual and that focus leads to some type of retribution.
If bodily harm were to occur due to a posting such as this, the plaintiff in such a matter would have no problem at all finding an attorney to handle the case on a contingency basis. Filings could fall within State Court jurisdiction or Federal Court on a Civil Rights violation.
Just beware when you point the finger of suspicion. A law suit is no fun when you are the defendant.

Concerning the previous comment, the person who posted the photo did not add the comment.
The comment, obviously, was posted by someone who did not identify themselves.
Maybe the person should identify him or her self - or maybe they're the cop?
As a matter of fact, with this being an anonymous forum the person who posted the cop comment could just as well be the person who posted the Civil Rights Attorney comment or myself as well?
And "confused" should refrain from making comments until they can express themselves more intelligently without the unneeded animosity.

Pot's calling the kettle black, Mr Super-Intellectual Observer from SDIMC. Just because I used plain terms to express my disbelief in the stupidity of persons in this day and age who support communism and race hatred (the panthers), does not mean I lack the ability to debate in an intelligent manner with a super-intellect as yourself. i jsut cut to the chase: Communism and Socialism don't work. They never have, they never will, read your history books, you're an idiot.

history books are written to support the system that is in power at the time that they are in power. i don't read about "cointelpro" in the history books, or about how many panthers were murdered by cops in history books, i dont hear about Amadou Diallo in history books, or the bombing of the move house, or Margaret Mitchell murdered by LAPD, and so on...

We know the guy in the photo. He's a political ally of ours and a fighter for the people. We veterans know what happens to people who stir up this trouble.
Stop it
