Channel 8 Repoporter asks a good question?

Drawing of an NBC reporter asking a good question

Channel 8 Repoporter...
, image/jpeg, x

At the 12:00 PM press conference on Bio-Genetics and human patenting, a channel 8 NBC reporter actually asked a question that was on his mind. It was thethe consensus of the indymedia reporters present that if more of the "legit" press asked such simple questions, we might get somewhere.

(Meanwhile, on the main-stage, Journalists Steve Wilson and Jane Akre told the story and of how their story on Bovine Browth Hormone was booted from their Fox tV Florida Station and then they were fired as well. They scolded journalists for not fullfilling their Journalistic Duties of reporting on news and presenting information pertainant to an informed citizenry.)

Sorry, problem uploading the drawings.

Im fixing it right now, but essentially, this dude had the nerve to ask why would corps. do invent such technologies if it doesnt go for human health? The reporter asked what sort of insentive would their be for the bio-tech's be to deal with health issues if they dont own the genes that they are researching with? The speaker responded that most of the scientific discoveries throughout history have geen made without this sort of territorializing of the body. He also said that the fame and profit from the drugs and other therapies gained from research should be rewards enough. The speaker went on to say that what gets in the way of proper research is the constant profit motive, and if that is driving particular bio-techs, they should not be in the business becuase their actions are counterproductive to human health.
