Biojustice Deportations Planned

by intime-sdimc Sunday, Jun. 24, 2001 at 12:07 AM

San Diego law enforcement authorities are in the process of deporting 300-500 juvenile offenders.

A reliable eyewitness has just provided San Diego-IMC with the following account:

San Diego law enforcement authorities are in the process of deporting 300-500 juvenile offenders from their permanent residence at the juvenile hall in Clairmont Mesa to the Campo work camp just east of San Diego in preparation for this weekend’s protest against the massive biotechnology conference in San Diego. The witness expressed concern about the effects of these extreme, ostensibly unnecessary, measures on both the safety of the local communities and the safety of the juveniles for many reasons:

First, there is very little security at the Campo camp, making it easy for the juveniles to leave.

Second, the temperature at Campo is forecast to be 105 Fahrenheit, and living conditions are going to be extreme and very dangerous.

Third, the cost of this operation is very high: Taxpayers of San Diego are paying to treat youth in this way.

Fourth, law enforcement is planning to arrest 300-500 more juveniles, even though the planned protests all call for non-violence, and are being organized by community members including farmers, teachers, students, and doctors.

I still don't understand who is being deported?

Webster's definition of deportation is:

deportation (n) Expulsion of an undesirable alien

from a country.

The article only makes reference to people being

moved from one US facility to another, presumably

to create space to hold arrestees during the BIO

conference.
