why isnt downloading an option

by napm Sunday, Jun. 24, 2001 at 12:05 PM

Is it not possible to also make these files as well as all video files also available as downloads rather than streaming so that us modem users can also watch them properly?

Help w/ viewing videos

by voodoo Sunday, Jun. 24, 2001 at 6:59 PM
voodoo@freecali.org

These links have all been tested (and work) on a Win98 machine with the most current version of Realplayer Basic.

If you are having difficulties playing the RAM links, you can try going to http://www.real.com and downloading the free Realplayer Basic. They make it difficult to find the free version -- I swear it is there.

A direct link to the RP basic player might be:
http://proforma.real.com/real/player/player1.html?src=010613realhome_1,010613rpchoice_h1&dc=624623622

get the basics done

by hamido Sunday, Jun. 24, 2001 at 10:57 PM
hamido@talk21.com

hi,

please - you have to think again about the format you want to enable people round the world to see whats happen

realplayer is really shit ;)

there is no way that people with isdn or slower connection get more out of that than an idea of the videos

if you have problems to offer a reasonable solution for this problem than just ask someone - its really simple to offer downloadable movies in .mpeg or .avi

your are a medium of the new century so act like this

realplayer sucks

by Jens nielsen Tuesday, Jun. 26, 2001 at 8:44 AM

Yes, realplayer sucks, and so does those clips. I have a reasonably fast connection, but still, the quality of the clips is so poor, that they are not much worth.
Compress those clips to mpeg, and a bit more decent quality please.

MPEG Please

by SMTD Friday, Jun. 29, 2001 at 4:06 AM

I agree! IMC video should be posted in MPEG format. It's more crossplatform friendly (Mac, Win 9x, Linux, UNIX) and the files can be downloaded locally. Media on the internet tends to dissappear over time.

dotcom

by bjl Saturday, Jun. 30, 2001 at 3:01 AM
bjl@home.se

Why use a closed standard video format made
by a profit hungry mad company for the
even more mad operatingsystem windows?

Use mpeg instead, available on most platforms
and playable with open source software!

One good way to support free software, open source
and open standards is to use it...

Realplayer isn't free. It's another attempt
to copyright control, and control
users so they can't download the video clips, just
watch them streaming from some stupid server
until the one who made the videos removes them.

Btw, at least I managaed to download streaming
only realplayer clips with the help of freebsd and
the program tcpflow.

I only hear the evil

Good documentaries

by Mathias Friday, Jul. 06, 2001 at 7:23 AM

These video streams are really good.
I was in Gothenburg during the EU summit and these films really show the reality. During the last weeks swedish media has only shown the stone throwing demonstrants but these clips show the whole action.

Real Player is the devil!!

by Timo Friday, Jul. 06, 2001 at 7:41 AM
paladin144@93xrocks.com

I have to agree with all the other people who said Real Player sucks ass. I'd love to discuss the content of the videos, but I can't view them because Real Player is too busy sucking ass.

Can we please have the ability to download these videos in AVI, MPEG or Quicktime format? Please, ANYTHING but Real! I hate their buggy software, and it seems awfully strange to see an anti-corporate site using a media player from a huge, heartless corporation like Real. The more I hear about their business practices, the less I trust them.

Also, if these were downloadable files we could show them to a wider audience. Many people have computers, but no internet connection (or a really shitty one) and can't feasibly watch these videos. If we could burn them on a CD, they would be easy to pass around, and then we would have a better chance of reaching people who don't have a computer at all. As is, I suspect most people are using their office's net connection/computer to view these.

Anyway, please look into this. I think most people would agree that downloading is better and that Real sucks.
