Europe puts up anti-riot barricades

by London Guardian Tuesday, Jun. 19, 2001 at 4:01 AM

The establishment has fallen back to the final citadel. It is good to see mention in this article of both practical and defined objectives the protestors are presenting--in Italy, pressing for debt-relief.

The Last Acts of a Dying Order

by fuckshitup Tuesday, Jun. 19, 2001 at 6:13 AM

This horrendous consolidation of power masquerading as "democracy" now has to hide inside fortresses and castles to avoid the angry mobs? Hmm, I wonder ... has anyone inside these citadels bothered to ask maybe why the mobs are so angry? Is it maybe because the last time decisions were made on our behalf inside of fortresses and castles, to which none of us "commoners" were invited, we called them monarchies, and we OVERTHREW them? What the fuck is the difference now?

For what he's contemplating, I wouldn't be surprised if Berlusconi ends up watching his precious Genoa burn to the ground. And I have to admit, I'd love to see a rogue air force firebomb that G8 summit. I'd be thrilled if assassins on motorcyles crashed through their giant meeting hall with machine guns blazing for the robber barons of our day.

I doubt any of this will happen. But if the headline on the day of the G8 summit says, "GENOA ON FIRE," much as I will disparage the violence and the loss of ANY human life, I'll still feel that it was, on the whole, a reasonable remedy for a problem shared by billions of people: UNACCOUNTABLE LEADERSHIP. These bastards must be brought to heel.

Captains of Capitalism, Beware: I think I hear a bell tolling ... for you.

Running scared

by Practice Disobedience Tuesday, Jun. 19, 2001 at 1:10 PM

How easy it is for Mr Blair to start attacking the protesters and claiming that they are the ones destroying the lives of the innocent. How convenient it is to talk about democracy when and individual lies dying after yet another emergency surgery. This individual was shot during a demonstration of democracy. Speaking of the Travelling Circus, what about presidents and other executive level politicians that spend most of their time travelling around the globe making a spectacle of themselves. The policies and schemes they cook up, sometimes in plain view, are far more destructive and inhumane than all riots to date. And for all those people who don't believe that we can change anything, we've got them so scared they have to use extreme measures. They have come to realize that we cannot be ignored. Keep up the fight and always practice disobedience. In the words of Pete Seeger...

"It is going to take the courage of those who refuse to stand silent by."

Bloody TYRANNY!

by peaGREEN Wednesday, Jun. 20, 2001 at 5:02 AM

...That's what it is! And he has the GAUL to call it "Democracy"! Where has he been living? In a BUNKER?

...I think I agree with the suggestion I've heard that a few shoulder-fit CRUISES are in order for Genoa!

...Why should protestors be grappling with the mere PAWNS, when the "Major Pieces" are ranged up so close behind?

...Perhaps Bin Ladin or others with vexious greiviences would see fit to do the honors?

...Or some who feel they have again been left unjustly out of the Party.....?

The Future

by Marlin in Seattle Wednesday, Jun. 20, 2001 at 5:37 AM

We keep up the pressure, they have to hide. Then they try heavier repression, we have to hide.

No, I'm tired of this game! So are billions of others! We need to develope strategies that carry us from protest to taking state power. Our mission is to develope new tactics, new understandings & plans for what we need to do to rebuild our world. Yes OUR WORLD!

These thugs, the international elite, who inflict oppression on us all, need not only to be kept in check, they need to be taken out of power.

We need to develope strategies that educate people towards emancipating their own minds, and that enable us to seize power. These strategies MUST reflect the values we are fighting for. Love, acceptance, freedom, equality. We need to balance that which what we know must be done, IE, fighting, defending ourselves, perhaps even killing, with creating peace, non-violence & a sustainable world environment.

Those in power will use everything they have at their disposal to maintain their power. We will have to use hearts & minds very wisely if we are to succeed.

I am so stoked to hear these words of resistance & revolution. I have been waiting all my life for these changes.

In solidarity

--Marlin
