Open letter from Deivid's Thang to George www. Bush
Open Letter Form Deivid’s Thang to George www. Bush
Mr. www. Bush,
As has been pointed out repeatedly by a substantially large cross-section of reasonably sane individuals, the Missile Defense System you are selling to the American public on behalf of the military industrial complex will undoubtedly set off a new arms race. This obvious response other nations will take up is reinforced all the more with the spaghetti-western type approach to foreign relations your administration has made trademark in just a mere hundred days. Is it any wonder the US was kicked off the UN Human Rights Committee? Let's face it, a lot of other countries don't much like the US right now, and often enough for good reason. You're certainly doing a fine job of advancing tensions with these countries so that a Missile Defense System might seem more palatable to a fearful American public. I assure you, the purpose of my writing this letter is not to implore you to take another route than the one Bill Clinton committed the US to in 1999, but to congratulate you as a salesman. You've got Americans everywhere whimpering and begging for the protection of your little skeet shooting system; protection from all these evil rogue countries, that could just as easily stick a bomb in a truck to get their point across and thus not have to face the music when the US decides to retaliate. Retaliate against whom? You wouldn't know. Hell, with every one so uptight about possible bombings on US soil I'm sure the industry will be pulling in the welfare for a long, long time. Or at least until someone really is stupid enough to bomb this country so that you in turn can blow it to hell and back a million times. Of course, that'll really freeze the economy, eh? Well, la-de-da, I'll let you get back to your video games. I hope you’re staying off the sauce.
Deivid’s Thang
Would you like a chance to congratulate George www. Bush on his work as a salesman for the Military Industrial Complex? Of course you would…email him @ http://dontblowit.policy.net/

It appears right now that the Feds are looking for an excuse to fuck things up for the IMC. It seems to me we should not be making it any easier for them. Titling an article "Letter Bomb to the President" is opening the door to them. Do I support your right to say that? Sure, but the federal government does not -- direct threats to the welfare of the President are NOT protected speech, whether you agree with the law or not. And yes, they might use that as a pretext to a whole host of egregious bullshit. I mention this out of concern for the well being of our IMC, and as a suggestion to those who would edit its content that if a post here crosses the line into illegal activity, it is within their discretion to remove such posts on the grounds that they are unlawful. There is a big difference between censorship and reserving the right ot remove posts that may be intrinsically illegal. The IMC can exercise that right without compromising its principles.
It sucks to remove anything from what should be a completely open exchange of ideas, but it's not worth losing IMC just so somebody can post the opening salvo of their jihad on the IMC's server. I know others will not agree with me; good. Let's discuss it.

It seems obvious that Cantspell Theing meant an email flood, AKA mail-bombing. There's a big difference between that and a letter bomb: organizing a flood of emails or snail mails to a particular person on a particular subject is a pretty legitimate expression of opinion whose worst case effects on the recipient are to annoy the poor buggers who actually have to read their mail, or to mess up their email inbox. A letter bomb, on the other hand, is a physically destructive device, i.e., it goes BANG!
The first reply to this post is correct- the Feds are actively looking for pretexts to harrass and intimidate news sources which aren't under the control of their corporate masters. There's no sense in handing them one on a platter by being careless about our choice of terms.
The people running an IMC Web site might also want to consider the possibility that the spooks might upload a threatening message to manufacture their own pretext, and think about watching out for this.

To the Feds- the title of this peice, 'Letter Bomb the President', it should be noted was not written for the purpose of inciting or declaring any act of violence on George www. Bush. As much as I disagree with damned near everything Mr. www. Bush's administration has done since coming into office, a death threat against the man was NOT the message. Perhaps the title was a poor choice and in bad taste, you'll have to excuse my tendency towards bad taste then. I only meant to incite people to exercise their freedom to email a letter of concern to the president over this issue. Nothing more. It's unfortunate that my tendency toward lame humor might hinder the real point, which is simply that I DON'T WANT AN ARMS RACE. My apologies to you, and to those within the troops who's shorts might have gotten in a bind over my shocking language. I assure you all in the future I will not attempt humor again ever ever. Thangkya.

P.S. Sorry about all the typos. I must be spending too much time at the IMC.

I wanted to say [CENSORED] about [CENSORED], but the [CENSORED] won't [CENSORED], do you know what I mean?
Meanwhile, rascists can say whatever hateful things they want, including talking about murdering people of color, on their right wing web sites, and the police do nothing! (or possibly some of them are the posters, such as the well-known white supremacist cop Harald Martin, who works with the people who put 187 and 209 on the ballot, and has written racist legislation for Anaheim police, of which he is one.)
