I hang out with a lot of the Trotskyist crowds and although I still don't disagree with everything they say, one thing they seem to be stuck on when you ask them about anarchists is that they are "all talk". Although this maybe true of some, marching in a Black Bloc as I did today gave me a brand new respect for these people. That is, I learned they are NOT all talk and although I see some room for improvement, did not, in my eyes, fail, as some other organizations present did (that is, they stood back and got in their sprinting positions while we in the Black Bloc stood up against those fences and were ready to be on the frontlines). BTW, for those that were there, I was the guy in the gasmask with the camcorder. Begin to LIVE. Begin to FIGHT BACK. http://www.raisethefist.com http://rff.raisethefist.com

like i'm stupid enough to give out my number Los Angeles
I was not in the Black Bloc- I was at the rally in SD. I give them much respect because they practice what they preach. When the Black Bloc was marching they were chanting "smash the state and masterbate". When they got to the fence I saw them throwing bottles, rocks, and flowers to the police.
People in Europe, Canada, Asia, South Africa ect... The activist there fight the police. They throw molotov cocktails... And they don't fuck around and just talk bullshit like here. When I see a cop at a protest thats an insult! And it's very disrespectful/.. You white ass honkey people need to do that in America. Don't be a coward! Fuck the permit! take the streets! Fuck the sorry as boring speakers and bands. More actions! FIGHT BACK! Force the police back!
Any kind of change will happen with Direct Actions and Resistance! Not by marching single file line and just holding signs.
From a non-white crazy ass anarchist punk rocker from los Angeles.

Why the frikin hell can't anarchists bash the state or capitalism for once, instead of taking absolutely every motherfuckin opportunity to make snide comments about socialists?!?!?! Here we have a brilliant and unprecedented cross-border mobilization against corporate globalization, bringing all kinds of activists from all over the US and Mexico--and instead of concentrating our fire on the soft underbelly of the beast, somebody's always gotta turn aside and beat that dead horse ("Here lies 'Redbait.' She will never rest in peace.")
(To be honest, the poster who started this topic probably didn't mean to open the door to the hard-core anti-Leninists. I'm glad that person wants to participate in many different kinds of actions and politics before deciding--if ever--which have the most promise. But this same tired old shit keeps coming up again and again.)
Sure, some "socialists" are dogmatic. But then again, in my experience, so are 99% of "Black Bloc" anarchists. The point isn't who is more "dogmatic" ("You are!" "No, you are!"), or who has the bigger revolutionary dick. The point is--we need to ask ourselves what tactics and what time can be the most successful *and* build the movement bigger for next time. Who are our allies? Who are our enemies? What is power? Who has it? How can it be used?
BTW, if most anarchists (aside from the ones who get absolutely apoplectic at the mere mention of Lenin) bothered to take a close look, they'd see that the ISO has more in common with many self-described anarchists than with many self-proclaimed socialists (Maoists, Stalinists, etc.)
I don't think this little note will help much. But there's always hope.
in solidarity, Dave
