Some people at the IMC website have said they don't believe this really happened, so here it is, an "e-affidavit."
I was only incorrect as to the date of the incident, i. e. placing it a week after it happened.
(this message was sent to me yesterday)
NINE YEAR OLD ATTACKED BY REPUBLICAN EXTREMISTS AT WESTWOOD RALLY
Nine year old Tasha arrived at a planned Gore rally with her eleven year old
brother, myself (her father) and her mother only to discover a group of two
to three hundred Republicans. We stayed outside the fringes trying to figure out how to get through the Republican crowd to the small number of Democrats who had not been scared away. A number of Republicans came up to us and started talking about how this was their country now and we were to get out of it. Some of them were espousing praises of Hitler and talking of wanting to exterminate various groups of people. My wife asked one of them if he was a skinhead and he said he was. They started calling us Stalinists and Communists.
Tasha, her mother and I were physically attacked by Republicans (who had no
qualms about using their fists and poster-stakes on peaceful Gore
supporters). Tasha's sign was pulled away from her by a guy who tried to
tear it up and my sign was knocked into the street. Her brother remained
unharmed. As she, her brother, my wife and I made our way through the crowd, the children were greeted will nonstop calls of "Stalinist", "communist", "welfare case" and continual obscene language. They also kept yelling, "This is our country now! Get out of our country!"
When we got to the corner where some other Democrats were being oppressed, my wife asked some drivers to call the police. Then she borrowed a phone from a channel 4 (KNBC-TV) newsman and called the police. She told them about the attacks and that the Democrats needed a police presence to ensure their safety. With considerable slowness, the police finally arrived. The
Republican crowd, which could not stay civilized, finally left.
We had no idea that the Republicans that were attending this demonstration
were such extremists. The Gore supporters need protection at these. What is clear to us that the Bush campaign is getting a lot of mileage out of these violent demonstrators.
...This happened on November 25 somewhere between 3:00 and 4:00 pm.

Tom,
I recall being there on that day as well. From what I heard second hand, but did not witness, this account is correct. The police did in fact come and ask the Bush league to leave and I recall hearing it was because they had knocked signs out of people's hands. As much as I detest and dislike the apparant fascism of these protestors, I think it was misleading on your part to claim below that "FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN WERE BEATEN UP BY PRO-BUSH THUGS. YES, THE CHILDREN WERE BEATEN UP TOO." This is not an account of anyone getting beaten up, and describing it that way only detracts from the truth and seriousness of this testimony. Maybe I'm wrong. I will encourage others who were there to comment on this and verify it's truth if they can. I do think people should be aware of the type of people the Republican Party is representing.
respectfully,
Jon Sherman

I also was there on Nov 26 as well as subsequent weekends. I myself did not see the account but saw the family soon after- they told me what happened. Somewtime after, the police asked the Republican demonstrators to leave. Also on the following weekend I saw two adolescent girls running. When they came back my way they said someone shoved them and stole their flag. They were very upset and decided to leave. During the last rally, a man with his dog were pushed by a very riled up woman. She was under the imppresiion he had stepped on her- if he did ( I saw this) it was so minor and accidental. She started screaming no one pushes me and shoved him very forcefuly that his dog fell out of his collar and into the street. Luckily we retrieved him quickly. Not once did she apologize, on the contrary- she kept screaming at us. When I hear of children (and animals) being attacked I find no justice in this.

"My fellow Americans, now is the time to find common ground. I'm optimistic this can happen now that I have taken control of your pathetic lives. Our future, I mean the future of rich white Americans depend on it.
As the next president of the United States I make a pledge to provide mo' for every American. Mo' bullshit, mo' poor people, and mo' muthafuckers on unemployment.
I have faith that with God's help we will move forward. So every rich white American has access to the American dream. Together we as a nation will rise above the recent controversy that delayed me being your next President.
I want to thank the KKK for preventing all those black folks and liberals from voting in Florida. I know you guys had your hands full, I heard they turned out in groves to keep my republican ass out of office. By the way, I think it was a good idea to sabotage those chads in the democratic neighborhood. Nice going!
It is with great pleasure that I accept the position as the President of the United States, and give every non-rich, non-white American what they fear most, Mo' Reaganomics!
I look forward to fuckin up your lives for the next four years. If you don't like it too muthafuckin bad.
Before I leave I just want to thank Vice-President Gore for putting up a good fight. I didn't think you bitches in the White House had it in you.
Goodnight, and God help all you muthafucka's that didn't vote for me! I know who you are!"

After listening to Bush speak last night I wrote that story and sent it to friends.
I hope everyone can see the humor in it.
I like to read between the lines, and that is what I heard him saying.

rethink the wisdom of taking young children to demos at all.
just as with any other aspect of life, it seems to me that children should be left out until or if they can understand the issues and want to join in. especially so if the demo is known to be risky.
