There really isn't much to comment on. What happened? Did he interview any of them? Was is positive? Did the journalists talks in a condescending way to the anarchists like most journalists would?
when was this picture??? at the DNC??
Sorry, I posted this late last night and I agree the text is lacking. First, this was in fact at the DNC. I'm only now getting around to scanning a lot of the stuff I shot there and due to the fact that I'm scanning prints, the quality is lacking. Jenning's seemed pretty interested in what these guys had to say. Shortly after I took this shot I spoke with one of them and they said he treated them with respect. All that said, I did hear that during the events on Monday night he characterized those in the streets as thugs. Forgive me if I posted this too late to be of any interest to anyone, just thought it was good. I've got more but I don't want to take critical news space on the server.
Keep your heads down--
Anon.
If any of the anarchists with whom I delt with in L.A. should read this, I'd like to put forward a thank you. I understand your reluctance to be photographed (see my lack of name despite the fact that I'm a working jour). Almost every time I would gesture to my camera before photographing an anarchist, in an attempt to ask permission, I was o.k.'d. I'm not one to shoot those who don't want the coverage. The anti-globalization movement, a massive beast with numerous arms, is the push of my work these days. Somethings going on out there. . .but if your reading this, you know that. Hopefully the media and activists can sit down and have some form of dialouge soon.
Peter Jennings does in fact refer to Anarchists and others as"Thugs" when discussing protesters who engage in non-violent direct action. Both in Philly and LA, and going all the way back to A16 he said to millions of people on World News Tonight "There were Thugs on the streets..." I don't have the exact quotes, but I heard them and I saw it. On each occassion ABC would show the most exciting property destruction clips they could find and then make the thug comment. I've wondered who were those people on the news? If you saw yourself please contact me. We should demand some respect from Peter if the "Thugs" stepped forward and demanded an explanation of the comment.
I'd be glad to help pulicize the story if you feel like stepping forward. The effort could improve our standing with alot of ignorant Americans. I'm sick of having to explain the brutality at these protests and this would give us an in with the network or a competeing network.
Onwards,
