Saturday, October 14, 2000, Noon to 6:30 p.m., The Seditious collective has created a conference for the seventh generation entitled "the American Holocaust: History, Hip Hop and Hope". The goal of the conference is to expose our communities to the whole truth regarding colonial history, not just America's educational systems partial approach to telling it. Secondly, to liberate our minds from a "culture of silence" so prevalent in our society. Thirdly, to expose our youth to different tools of empowerment, and finally to find alternative solutions to express anger and violence through workshops based on dialogue and reflection of our immediate environment while recognizing our ancestors. Intertwined throughout the whole day will be the culture of Hip Hop, demonstrating its power to educate and entertain. The day will conclude with a revolutionary Hip Hop concert ceremony, which will reinforce many of the messages shared throughout the day.

The highlighted speaker of the conference is Ward Churchill, who has achieved an unparalleled reputation as a scholar-activist and analyst of indigenous issues in North America. Ward Churchill is professor of American Indian Studies with the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder. A member of the American Indian Movement since 1972 and author of the books 'Fantasies of the Master Race', 'Indians Are Us', 'From a Native Son', and most recently 'A Little Matter of Genocide: Holocaust and Denial in the Americas 1492 to the Present'. His topic at the conference will be to explore the history of the American holocaust and denial in this hemisphere, form the arrival of Columbus to the present day.

Other speakers participating throughout the day are Jody David Armour, Professor of Law at the University of Southern California and author of 'Negrophobia and Reasonable Racism: The Hidden Costs of Being Black in America'. Also, activist and organizer Norma Vega of the Humanitarian Law Project will be discussing the low intensity war against indigenous people in the state of Chiapas, Mexico. We will conclude the day with a dialogue and reflection with Luis Rodriguez, activist and author of 'Always Running: Gang Days in L.A.', as well as African scholar Malidoma Some and Irish story teller Michael Meade from MOSAIC, a non-profit foundation that seeks to create opportunities for personal growth, social change and cultural healing.

DJs Icy Ice of the World Famous Beat Junkies, DJ Counterstrike of Seditious Beats Radio, and DJ Adverse will be spinning critical thinking Hip Hop between speaking breaks while video footage of liberation struggles from different parts of the world is shown.
