Downtown "Thank You" Barbecue - Friday, September 1, 2000
From 12:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. at Pershing Square (corner of 6th and Olive)
A celebration barbecue honoring the men and women of the various law enforcement agencies for their dedicated service during the Democratic National Convention. Please join us at Pershing Square for food, drink and the summer sounds of Joe's Band.
There will also be a special presentation to recognize Chief of Police, Bernard Parks. .00 charge to the public with net proceeds going to benefit the Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation. If you want to pre-purchase tickets, please contact Heidi Beeks at (213) 624-2146.
Heidi has asked that you call her number as often as possible to order tickets and jam her phone lines. The BBQ fee will be waived to anyone showing up wearing a black bandana over their face. Complimentary pepper spray and rubber bullets will be served up courtesy of the LAPD. Participants are asked to bring anything that makes loud and disturbing noises. Following the BBQ, the nearby Jewelry Mart will be hosting a unique 'black bloc' jewelry sale with special discounts to masked shoppers dressed in black.
Please be on time because we don't want to keep Chief Parks waiting.
This kind of inflamatory BS is not at all funny. I had intended to be there. Your scare-mongering is no better than the weeks of scare tactics used by the LAPD to keep people out of Downtown during the DNC. Shame.
You should also note that after making such a statement any action you make towards fulfilling your threats would be conspiracy, which is usually a felony. You set up all honest citizens to that risk. Shame Shame.

C'mon lighten up! What threats? To wear a black bandanna? Nothing illegal about that. And what's illegal about a little satirical comment on the jewelry merchant's paranoia? The jewelry mart doesn't have a customer dress code do they? A revolution without a few laughs is no revolution at all!
Do whatever you want to do at a demonstration because the authorities are arresting everybody for anything and they don’t want or need excuses to do you in. Keep the message of your group out front. Act and accept the consequences, but don’t react. Non-violent change is what we seek. Never be violent. Except in self-defense. Or to defend a child. Or a senior in danger. So lets say NEVER INITIATE VIOLENCE! You know the old saying- what if they threw a war and nobody came?
