Did Somebody Say Keep Quiet?

by Stephen Konieczka Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000 at 6:17 AM
spkonieczka@juno.com Chicago, IL

We must show that when they threaten, we solidify!

I hope no one doubts that the recent reports about the streets of LA being littered with National Gaurdsmen and their M-16"Peace Keepers" during D2K is, as Bush would say, to put a "limit on freedom."

While this is a very disturbing announcement with alliterative motives that our fellow Americans will not receive from their trusted news personality; it is not something that will keep us away either! Somebody has even said it will bring others into town. A reality I can agree with. We must show that when they threaten, we solidify!

But obviously we can't all get to LA. And better than spending the days in front of the computer screen pulling your hair out why not get out in the streets at home?

I'm not talking about a walk to ease your mind-the garbage underfoot will foil that journey. I suggest anyone with the means to do so go and hand out fliers outside the major media outlets in your hometown. They won't defend our rights so lets destroy their credibility on their own turf. This should be organized and potent!

I'm going to make a flier in the next day or two with related Philly, Minn, Seattle, and DC information and then whom ever plans to participate should get a copy of the LA IMC newspaper from Monday the 14 and hit the streets Tuesday the 15th . This will arm us with information from LA and allow those who we reach to follow the remaining days via la.indymedia.org! I'm just suggesting one day because that's all I can offer but who's to stop you from going out on Wednesday too?

If your interested in showing solidarity with our masses in LA and letting the government know we won't be intimated-just irritated-by violence; slam the corporate press on their court; reach others in your city and alert them to the situation; and of course, promote the IMCs write me at spkonieczka@juno.com.

If someone knows of literature concerning legal advice for protestors I should include in the package please send it to me. I'll make up a small card so everyone knows what to do if they get arrested.

I'll send out a package of files as jpg images you can print out and copy by Sunday the 13th .
