This is NOT a communique from the Black Bloc--just from one anarchist within the Bloc.

I was flabergasted to see you, Ted Hayes, go out of your way to denounce anarchists on media networks on Tuesday. You even went as far to say the ACLU is wrong to file lawsuits over the police riot and instead you praised the LAPD. You refuse to recognize the power structure may pat you on the head for a Judas-job well done but they will never accept you as their own.

You are entitled to your ill feelings towards anarchists. However, to media-whore oneself out like you did is disgusting, revolting, and unacceptable. Private dialogue within the movement is the only way to get the point across. The least you could do is use the forum I'm using now.

On Thursday night, after you were finished with making the talk show circuit in town, I saw you approach the Black Bloc for a discussion...with the media surrounding you. I didn't hear what you had to say at his point because the media was pushing in for your photo-op. If you wanted everyone involved with the Black Bloc to hear your message of salvation you could've waited for a better time.

As we marched to the jail you stayed with the Black Bloc the whole time. You had people with you that videotaped incessantly and rumor spread that you might turn anarchists over to the cops. That is difficult to believe because overall the larger movement has been very supportive of the Black Bloc--which many anarchists I have talked to, including myself, have appreciated. If this is true, however, it feels like a stab to the heart because you are willing to feed us to the sharks.

At the jail I could overhear you pushing for everyone to leave the jail, not hold vigil. You said that "you don't want to be in there." Man, my brothers and sisters locked in there mean more than my reputation and comfort. Stop worrying so much about yourself and stand up for your comrades.

What are you up to, Hayes? Which side are you going to be on? Make your decision and when you do, get back to me.

And, if you think that I've completely mistaken your intentions and actions, then let's have a dialogue.

I wasn't in L.A. this week, but I have been reading the stories on the IndyMedia site, as weel as articles in the corporate media. It became clear to me, who is 3000 miles away, that the concern that one of my anarchist comrades brings up here is a valid one. Hayes is entitled to his reformist and pro-cop views, but his black-baiting of anarchists is disgusting. He should talk to a variety of anarchists before he lumps us all intot he same boat in front of the TV cameras.

I'm sure that many activists from all over the world are reading these disussions. This movement has been pretty good so far in NOT dissing our fellow activists in front of the cameras or in interviews. Given some of the criticisms that have been hurled our way by other activists, the anarchist moevement has been very patient with the public criticism. It's one thing to have a robust discussion inside the movement, quite another to diss other activists in front of the cameras.

Check out Hayes web site and his "proposal." His actions become more easy to understand. Hayes views himself as the only authentic activist on behalf of homeless who is or ever has been homeless (which is in itself an absurdity...I cite for example Ron Casanova as one of many homeless people turned activist)and demands for himself a place at the table of the powerful. His proposal which call for sending the homeless off to some isolated area is only a wee bit strange with the potential of easily being coopted by true fascists and the State. Check it out...

Supposedly this hayes guy has been an idiot for awhile. I guess he goes to fnb feedings and yells about how their commies and anarchists, and at the dnc he openly stated that he will have homeless advocates protect the police if any trouble started happening on either side.

I have suspected that Mr. Hayes was more than he pretended to be. The first time was when he lead his gang to Venice Beach, California, in the late 1980's, and arrogantly tried to ensconce himself as a "Moses" of the homeless, with his staff in hand. He was rejected by the homeless people there, who were already in a protracted struggle for their civil rights against the LAPD and conservative property and business owners.

Hayes was allowed to sit up very large military tents on the ocean front, one of which was shrine reserved for his press clippings.

The real damage done by Ted Hayes to the homeless people in Venice, was the alienation, outrage, and hate that resulted from his followers rash of vandalism, that lost the "Battle for the Hearts and Minds" of the community, and provided the political cover, or imperitive, for the City Council of Los Angeles to allow the LAPD to ignore the civil rights of the homeless underclass, by away, impound the vehicles of those who lived in them, snatching the sleeping bags and personal property of the homeless people if they left them to go shower, eat, or see a doctor. And that is why the shopping carts became necessary, and then grounds for arrest... That was the consequences of Ted Hayes coming to Venice, and I am now certain, his motive as well!
